THE iconic Bathurst Gold Crown Carnival will carry record prizemoney amount in 2019 which will see all four major races elevated to Group 1 status.
Announced this week by Bathurst Harness Racing Club President Wayne Barker, the Gold Crown, Gold Tiara, Gold Chalice and Gold Bracelet will all carry prizemoney of $100,000 each as the centrepiece of a wide range of prizemoney increases for the Carnival.
“Additional prizemoney will be added to all facets of the Carnival,” Barker said.
“The heats and consolations will also be a beneficiary of the increases, with total Carnival prizemoney now exceeding $750,000.
“This prizemoney increase has been delivered through the strong relationship the Club has with Harness Racing New South Wales.
“I thank HRNSW for their tremendous support to achieve this outcome.”
This support from HRNSW compliments the governing body’s strategy of supporting the breeding sector in the state according to HRNSW Chairman Rod Smith.
“The prizemoney increase allocated to the Gold Crown Carnival is entirely sustainable and compliments the HRNSW strategy of supporting the breeding sector,” Smith stated.
“This increase should be the catalyst for all breeders as well as existing and potential buyers of yearlings purchased at our sales, to ensure all horses are paid up for the Gold Crown Series.
“This prizemoney injection is just one part of the HRNSW Board and Management’s focus and long-term strategy to grow a stronger harness racing industry in this state.”
Yearling payments for the Gold Crown will be mailed out this week with the deadline for payment July 31.
