Anthony Frisby has arrived in Christchurch to take the drive on Our Uncle Sam in today’s Group One Free For All at Addington. Electing not to drive in Tuesday’s New Zealand Cup, Frisby is hopeful of a strong result this afternoon.
“I chose not to take the drive on Tuesday and we had full faith in Mark Jones as he understands their racing really well, especially the standing starts and what’s involved there. I wasn’t too upset about the result as we thought we’d come and have a crack, and there’s no harm in trying” Frisby commented upon landing in Christchurch.
Frisby was upbeat about his six year old gelding’s chances in the Free For All saying “we’re pretty happy with it (the draw). He works well when he’s in front, but with a bit of luck we might find ourselves in the running line. We’re lucky that he’s such a versatile horse we can adapt to how the race plays out.”
The Bathurst-based driver is also hoping that the disappointment of Tuesday may actually play into his favour today adding “he should be a lot fresher than some of the others who raced earlier in the week so that may give us a small advantage”.
Our Uncle Sam’s final run at Bathurst gave connections plenty of reasons to be optimistic about this campaign following a fast finish in mid-October. “He ran 26.6 coming home in that last race before he came over here and that’s pretty quick for Bathurst so he’s come back really well. This trip has always been aimed at the Inter Dominion so if we can pick up some more prizemoney while we’re here that’s more of a bonus if anything”.
This is a fly in-fly out trip for Frisby as he returns home on Saturday before heading to Blayney’s Carnival of Cups event on Sunday.
