New Look for NSW Futurity Series

4 August 2020

Additional heats and more tracks, a regional focus and a premier meeting Finals night form the basis of the conditions for the postponed 2020 NSW Breeders Challenge and Trots NSW race series.

Following feedback from industry stakeholder groups the Series heats will return to Dubbo, Parkes, Young, Leeton and Tamworth whilst still being conducted at Menangle Park, Penrith, Newcastle, Bathurst and Wagga.

The Major Semi Finals and $125,000 Finals will be conduct at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

The $30,000 Finals of the Regional Series will be held at each of Riverina Paceway Wagga and Newcastle International Paceway. This aspect is also a first for the Breeders Challenge. Previously there were four Finals in only one designated region. Now there will be eight Finals across two regions which will reduce travel and costs for some participants.

Another introduction will be a guaranteed start for eligible horses in a heat of the race series which has not been the case previously. Three Heats of each division are scheduled for each Region of the Major Series whilst a heat of each division is scheduled for each region in the Regional Series.

The four Lazarus Blue Series Finals will be held at Tabcorp Park Menangle each for $50,000 with the continued financial backing of Club Menangle.

The $30,000 Trots NSW Finals will again be held in conjunction with the pacers finals on Saturday night October 24 which is recognition of the growth of the trotting gait in NSW.

Special COVID-19 protocols have been introduced for interstate horses and for crossing the NSW regional boundaries if these are still in place in October.

In the event the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be disruptive in the activities of all of the community HRNSW may require to be flexible and alter the Series conditions as it see fit.
