Newcastle Mile retains status

THE 2021 Newcastle Mile will retain Group 1 status.

Having been elevated to carry $100,000 in stakes for the last two years, the feature Hunter Region race will maintain that level of prizemoney for the upcoming edition.
It has also been confirmed by Club Menangle that the 2021 Newcastle Mile will again be a qualifier for the $1million Garrards Miracle Mile on March 6.
The Newcastle Mile will be held two weeks prior on Friday February 19, 2021.
Talented pacer Majordan won the 2020 edition and set a new track record in the process when stopping the clock in 1:50.7.
Majordan also won the 2018 Newcastle Mile when it carried prizemoney of $31,800.
In 2019 the race was elevated to Group 1 status, becoming the only race of that level in the Hunter region for open grade horses.
The 2021 edition will be conducted over the 1609 metre distance with the field of eight all commencing from the front line. The barrier draw will be random.
