Tiger arrives

7 November 2018

TRAINER Kevin Pizzuto is happy with how his stable star Tiger Tara has settled in New Zealand.

The recent Victoria Cup winner landed in the Shaky Isles on Tuesday, a week ahead of his hopeful NZ Cup assault.

Tiger Tara is currently fourth in the line of betting to win next Tuesday’s Group 1, ranked as a $7 chance with TAB Fixed Odds having placed in the last two NZ Cups.

His price extended out after drawing the second line in the 3200m time-honoured standing start.

“He’s really good,” said Pizzuto on Wednesday.

“He’s settled in well and has the day off today but I will work him tomorrow.

“He knows where he is and handles the travelling well.”

Pizzuto has based himself and Tiger Tara just outside of Christchurch at trainer Mitchell Kerr’s stables.

The pair stayed there last year when Tiger Tara finished third-placed in the NZ Cup to Lazarus.

And at this stage, Pizzuto could be there until Friday week.

“I might nominate him for the NZ Free-For-All on the Friday after the Cup,” said Pizzuto.

Tiger Tara finished second-placed in last year’s NZ Free-For-All to Ultimate Machete.

However, the stallion has changed since then according to Pizzuto.

“He’s put on some size and is a lot bigger than last year,” said Pizzuto.

“He’s a lot bulkier this season.”
