Ross wasting no time

6 December 2018

FRESH on the New South Wales scene young reinswoman Isobel Ross drove her first winner since relocating to the state at Tabcorp Park Menangle last Saturday night aboard Eye See Diamonds.

Ross made the move from Queensland to Bathurst two weeks ago, after the opportunity arose to work alongside leading trainer-driver Amanda Turnbull and has wasted no time finding the winners’ circle.

“I had never driven at Menangle before so I didn’t know the track but I was confident that if she found the top she’d take some catching,” Ross said.

Eye See Diamonds, which provided Ross with the milestone, executed a blistering first quarter of 26.5 seconds to find the lead and from there, left her rivals chasing.

The Group 3 Garrards Teeny Teeny Stakes was Ross’s second Group win - her first came courtesy of the Grant Dixon-trained Red Charmer in the Group 3 2018 Egmont Park Stud South East Oaks in July this year.

Having worked for leading Queensland trainers Jack Butler and Grant Dixon, Ross has had experience driving talented horses but is excited for the opportunities working for Turnbull will provide.

Although having driven 207 lifetime winners, Ross says that she enjoys the training side of racing just as much as driving.

“I really enjoy helping with the training side of things and I’ve been lucky enough to learn off of some great trainers,” Ross said.

As well as continuing to drives winners, Ross hopes to one day train her own team of horses.
