Race 6, RECIPE FOR DREAMING NZ

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

CANBERRA 21ST MAY 2018

RACE 6—QUEANBEYAN PRE MIX CONCRETE PACE –2170 METRES

Driver B Hewitt (RECIPE FROM DREAMING) was questioned in relation to his tactics adopted throughout the above race. B Hewitt explained he elected to go back from the start due to the speed drawn to his inside as he was concerned that the gelding hadn`t won a race over more than 1600 metres and was relucent to use him up in the early stages. B Hewitt explained that leaving the 1750 metres, he elected to stay on the marker line as CULLENS LADY (M Day Jnr ) was over racing when racing outside the leader at that stage and he was of the opinion that runner would tire at some stage during the race, affording him the opportunity to get off the marker line. Mr Hewitt explained that approaching the 800 metres when CULLENS LADY( M Day Jnr ) commenced to give ground, he looked to move into the running line to follow TOPSIE GRINNER (T Day ) but  was beaten to that position by BOOBALAGO ROAD (S Osmond ) and  was of the opinion it was better option to stay on the marker line to follow SANDBLASTER (D Hewitt)who he thought was the main danger and that runner would carry him into the event. B Hewitt stated that passing the 500 metres, RECIPE FOR DREAMING was under pressure and when approaching the 200 metres he was not travelling well enough to move the runner racing to his outside wider on the track. Mr Hewitt added that as SANBLASTER was travelling half a cart off the marker line when leading, he attempted a run to his inside with the hope the run would open up in the run to the finish however this did not eventuate resulting in RECIPE FOR DREAMING NZ being unable to secure clear running over the final stages. After reviewing the footage, considering Mr Hewitt’s evidence and after a thorough review on betting on the event, Stewards did not find Mr Hewitt’s actions unreasonable in the circumstances and noted his comments.
