Then, leaving the 800 metres the gelding gave him the feeling that he had choked down, therefore he eased RICH VIRGIN out of the event. L McCarthy was advised that RICH VIRGIN must complete one official trial prior to resuming racing.

Leaving the 250 metres, DOUBLE ENCOUNTER was hampered when caught behind the weakening PASS THE SPEIGHTS NZ, then approaching the 100 metres DOUBLE ENCOUNTER shifted in to obtain clear running to the inside of PASS THE SPEIGHTS NZ which shifted out under pressure.

He added that after straightening, he made two genuine attempts to keep MAJORDAN down the track but the gelding wanted to hang out and switched off when corrected. Therefore, he elected to continue to drive MAJORDAN out in the hope he would be able to finish the race off.  After reviewing the available vision T McCarthy’s explanation was accepted and he was reminded of his obligations to ensure he always drives in a competitive manner.

When questioned, trainer M Doltoff explained he was not pleased with the gelding’s most recent start and after tonight’s disappointing performance he would spell the gelding. He added that WAR DAN DESTROYER recovered within normal limits and could only conclude that WAR DAN DESTROYER had been at the end of a long preparation in which there had been few opportunities to compete in suitable races.
