GENERAL

The following drivers were all subject to breath testing and returned negative results. 

Maurice Johnson, Blake Micallef, Raymond Turner, Nathan Hoy, Jimmy Brown, Nathan Turnbull, Bernie Hewitt, Blake Jones, Shane Hallcroft, Bruce Harpley.

RACE 1 – TURNERS FURNITURE ONE LOCAL PACE – 2100 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from FOUR STARZZZ CHEF and GREAT HAND.

Driver B Micallef was fined $100 under Rule 273(6)(a) for presenting KETTERING GIRL to race with the incorrect saddle cloth.

Driver S Hallcroft (INDIANA ANGEL – barrier 10) was issued a reprimand under Rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain his position on the 2nd line. When taking no further action Stewards were mindful of the distance that the horse was out of position in addition that the horse did not obtain any advantage and the horse which it was trailing, was slightly back from its correct position.

SUNOFASIS was caught wide before obtaining a position in the running line approaching the 1800 metres.

HARPS improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1600 metres.

TOPSIE GRINNER improved three wide near the 1200 metres and raced wide for the reminder of the event.

INDIANA ANGEL improved three wide approaching the 1000 metres.

Approaching the 200 metres, INDIANA ANGEL paced roughly as KETTERING GIRL shifted wider when positioned to its inside.

Post-race swab samples were taken from ANOTHER BUDDY.

RACE 2 – TELSTRA SHOP YOUNG PACE – 1720 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from DRAGON STRIDE and ART SERIES.

Rounding the first turn, CORALIE JOY became unbalanced and galloped. As a result of galloping, the entire field were moved wider with SCARLET BABE being inconvenienced. In view of the mare’s recent record, a warning was issued.

ART SERIES improved three wide for a short distance rounding the first turn before obtaining the position outside the leader.

MALICIOUS FELLA was caught wide during the early stages before being restrained to the rear of the field near the 1350 metres.

YOU NINETY TWO improved three wide near the 1200 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 900 metres.

Approaching the winning post with a lap remaining, BLACKWHITEANDBLUE hung out which had taken YOU NINETY TWO wider and again hung out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. In view horse’s racing manners, a warning was issued.

Passing the 300 metres, ART SERIES which was improving three wide, locked wheels with YOU NINETY TWO for a short distance.

Driver A Turnbull (YOU NINETY TWO) was questioned regarding the performance of her drive which finished in 7th position, beaten 20 metres. Ms Turnbull explained that her horse has previously performed below expectations and this would appear to be all mental as YOU NINETY TWO is capable of a better showing. Ms Turnbull added that she would look to modify the horse’s training in an attempt to have consistent racing performances. Her comments were noted.

A post-race veterinarian examination of CORALIE JOY revealed the mare to have suffered a small superficial wound to its near fore heel. The horse did not require any treatment post-race and no stand down was required. 

Post-race swab samples were taken from ART SERIES.

RACE 3 – CHRISTY PARK PACE – 2100 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from PHILANDERER and GOLD ONYX.

TRUE CONNFESSIONS was caught wide before being restrained to the rear of the field near the 1800 metres.

IM NOT CRAZY raced keenly during the early stages of the event before obtaining cover.

PARK RUN improved three wide near the 1500 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1400 metres.

TRUE CONFESSIONS improved three wide with a trail passing the 1500 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

IM NOT CRAZY had difficulty obtaining clear running at the rear of the field when positioned behind PARK RUN and GOLD ONYX.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MAXIMUS RED.

RACE 4 – SOUTHCON YOUNG OAKS – 2100 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from KEPT IN PLAY and MAUDIES DELIGHT.

Shortly after the start, MAUDIES DELIGHT (barrier 9) became unbalanced and galloped. MAUDIES DELIGHT will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

MYRA DAWN raced wide in the early stages before obtaining cover at the rear of the field at the 1800 metres.

Entering the home straight, KEPT IN PLAY was inconvenienced when NELLY ALBERTINA (J Brown) shifted out to its inside and raced inside its line. Driver J Brown was advised to exercise greater care.

Driver A Grives (BILLIE KATE) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(3) for applying her whip in an excessive and continuous manner over the concluding stages. Mrs Grives was fined $200 after considering her recent offence record.

BELLA CLARE shifted ground over the concluding stages. Stewards intend to interview Driver N Xuereb at a later date regarding his filly shifting ground.

Post-race swab samples were taken from BELLA CLARE.

RACE 5 – SWSCU/YOUNG S&C CLUB YOUNG DERBY – 2100 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from VALIENTE and FIRESTORM RED.

The all-clear was delayed to allow Stewards an opportunity to review the run of LEONIDAS (2nd placed) when improving to the inside of UNCLE JORD entering the final turn and contacting a number of marker pegs. On review Stewards found that LEONIDAS improved to the inside with sufficient running and when in that positon, LEONIDAS was taken in and away from UNCLE JORD which hung in slightly. Stewards therefore ordered the all-clear be given on the judge’s numbers 2-8-9-6. 

UNCLE JORD (barrier 9) hung in after the start and broke gait when contacting the sulky wheel of HURRUCANE ROY. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued. Driver I Ross indicated that her drive was racing greenly in the event and would benefit with additional hanging gear.

MAKE MINE MEMPHIS improved three wide near the 1800 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1600 metres.

Passing the 1700 metres, MAKE MINE MEMPHIS was inconvenienced when BETTOR JIGGLE shifted away from SHOOBEE DOO when that runner shied and moved wider on the track.

Near the 1500 metres, UNCLE JORD was eased when improving onto the back of HURRICANE ROY when the pace in the running line eased.

UNCLE JORD improved three wide near the 1300 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1150 metres.

FIRESTROM RED was held up for clear running until passing the 100 metres.

Driver S Turnbull (FIRESTORM RED) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2) for applying his whip in more than a flicking motion and engaged his shoulder in the home straight. Mr Turnbull was fined $200 after considering his recent offence history.

Driver N Turnbull (BETTOR JIGGLE) advised that his colt raced greenly throughout the event and did not appear the handle the track.  

Post-race swab samples were taken from SHOOBEE DOO.

RACE 6 – CORDINA FARMS YOUNG PACERS CUP (GROUP 3) – 2480 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from MAKE MINE HEAVEN and YAYAS HOT SPOT NZ.

GOTTASHOPEARLY (barrier 7) broke gait in the latter stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

SPARE ME DAYS improved three wide until obtaining the positon outside the leader near the 2200 metres.  

CONVICTION improved three wide from the 1000 metres to race without cover.

YAYAS HOT SPOT NZ improved three wide with cover passing the 1000 metres.

GOTTASHOPEARLY improved three wide with cover near the 850 metres.

BARKWAY ARNOLD lost ground approaching the 600 metres.

NED PEPPER had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight but was tested.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MAKE MINE HEAVEN.

RACE 7 – SOUTHWEST TRACTORS PACE – 1720 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from MACH LE MORE and SORRY IM QUICK.

At the start, MACH LE MORE (barrier 3) and WE SALUTE YOU (barrier 4) came together.

MY MATE BAZZA (barrier 9) broke gait shortly after the start. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Rounding the first turn, TICK OF THE CLOCK hung out and paced roughly and as a result, MAYTHEHORSEBWITHU was inconvenienced slightly.

WILL AND ANDY raced keenly throughout the event.

SORRY IM QUICK weakened from the 400 metres.

Near the 300 metres, INDI RENA hung in and contacted a marker peg before losing ground. TICK OF THE CLOCK which was trailing, was checked when losing ground before obtaining clear running shortly after entering the home straight.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MACH LE MORE.

RACE 8 – TAB TWO YEAR OLD PACE – 1720 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from NO NAY NEVER and ADAM CROCKER.

SAINT EMILION (barrier 6) hung in after the start.

SAINT EMILION improved three wide until working forward to the lead at the 1450 metres.

Driver B Hewitt (NO NAY NEVER) was questioned in relation to the performance of his filly which finished in 5th position, beaten 18 metres. Mr Hewitt explained that prior to the starting point, his filly was shaking its head and was unbalanced and therefore he was unable to utilise the inside barrier draw and settled further back than expected. Mr Hewitt stated that his filly did not appear the handle the track and was hitting her knee during the event. His comments were noted.

Post-race swab samples were taken from SAINT EMILION.
