Approaching the 700 metres MYSTERY WRITER (K Weidenbach Jnr) which had commenced to tire had its sulky contacted by the runner trailing which was LANCELOT HALL driven by A Dean, when that gelding hung up the track this resulted in LANCELOT HALL being checked and galloping.  Also checked in this incident was MODERN CHICMYSTERY WRITER retired shortly after this. The club veterinarian inspected MYSTERY WRITER and reported no abnormalities.  Connections were informed MYSTERY WRITER would be required to perform one requalifying trial.

Swab samples were taken from the winner SPORTY ELEPHANT.

RACE 2 – EAST ALBURY IGA PACE – 1770 metres

Pre race blood samples were collected from NAVAJO ROCKY.

ARTISTIC BELLA (R Gregory-Jack) broke in the latter stages of the score up resulting in a false start.  As it had only been placed back in the mobile draw at its previous run, it shall be excluded from the draw in future mobile barrier events.  ARTISTIC BELLA then tired badly and shall be required to perform one requalifying trial.

SAMMYSLUCK (C Anderson) tired badly and shall be required to perform one requalifying trial.

Driver J Scott was fined $400 under Rule 156(2) for the manner in which he used his whip in the home straight.

Swab samples were taken from the winner DUKE JUJON and also from STAR BRUTUS which was claimed in this event.

RACE 3 – SPRINGDALE HEIGHTS TAVERN PACE – 1770 metres

Pre race blood samples were collected from GLENCORE.

GLENCORE (J Seary) broke in the early stages of the score up and was back out of position at the start and a warning was issued.

Shortly after the start PARK RUN (A Dean) shifted in slightly resulting in the sulky wheels of PARK RUN and IT IS A GLACIER locking wheels.  Ms Dean was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii).  Ms Dean was also questioned regarding her driving tactics in this race.  After being checked shortly after the start, and losing momentum and ground, PARK RUN was then sent forward four wide on the first turn and under the whip progressed forward in an attempt to get outside the leader. It failed to obtain this position and then raced three wide until approximately 500 metres from the finish where it commenced to give ground.  Trainer R Turner informed the inquiry that  although his instructions were for her to work forward he felt that she erred in  driving to those instructions after she had been checked in the early stages of the race. Ms dean was advised that although she was expected to drive to the trainers instructions, when circumstances changed she was expected to modify those instructions to give her drive the best possible chance. Ms Dean was charged under Rule 149(2) for driving in a manner which in the opinion of the Stewards was unacceptable.  Ms Dean pleaded guilty as charged and after taking into account her inexperience, her guilty plea and the fact that this was her first charge under this Rule her licence to drive was suspended for four weeks that suspension to commence midnight tonight 12 March.

On the final turn IMAPEST (P McRae) galloped.  At a subsequent inquiry it was established that as driver P McRae attempted to ease off the back of the leader in an attempt to get wider on the track the horse has moved forward despite his efforts and contacted the sulky wheel of ARTY GUY.  Mr McRae was reprimanded under Rule 168(1)(a) and informed that although the horse was partly to blame it was expected that a driver of his experience should have been more careful.

C Bell (MOST DELIGHTFUL) was fined $200 under Rule 156(2) for driving over the 70 metres of the event with both reigns in one hand.

Swab samples were taken from the winner ALWAYS IN COMMAND.

FAMOUS BREW (S Hallcroft) hung in in the middle stages of the score up and was back out of position at the start.  As it had a warning three starts prior to tonight’s event it shall be drawn wide in future mobile barrier events.

FAMOUS BREW then tired over the concluding stages.

GET ME OUTTA HEAR (J Lowe) which was being sent forward four wide on the first turn commenced to hang out just prior to straightening into the back straight on the first occasion and galloped. As it was only the gelding’s second start it shall be required to perform one requalifying trial.  As a result of this CONQUER THE DAY (D Perrot) was checked.

CONQUER THE DAY was inconvenienced as a result of OLYMPIC GEM hanging out in the back straight on the final occasion.
