When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today on IMAPEST, which raced three wide without cover from the start until it was restrained to obtain a position with cover in the running line near the 1000 metres, Driver C Anderson stated he had been instructed by the Trainer to attempt to lead or obtain the position outside the leader in the early stages of the race. He added that the gelding did not show sufficient gate speed to cross the runners to their inside in the early stages of the race and he continued to drive it forward in an attempt to obtain the position outside the leader however he was unable to get it to muster enough speed to get to that position. He further added that once they were approaching the 1000 metres it was apparent he was not going to get their preferred position so he elected to restrain to get cover. Trainer P Romero confirmed the instructions and added that those instructions were given, as IMAPEST tends to not race well when it does not obtain a forward position in its races. Stewards advised C Anderson that they would expect him in similar circumstances to make the decision to restrain to a position with cover earlier in his races in future. Trainer P Romero was advised that given the performance of IMAPEST which tired over the concluding stages and was beaten by a considerable margin, would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.
