All Driver’s engaged to drive in race 7 today were subject to alcohol breath testing.

RACE 1 – HRNSW REWARDS SERIES HEAT 1 PACE – 2270 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from WINSOME MOOLAH.

STYLISH GRIN was declared a late scratching at 9.26am on Vet’s advice.

AUCKLAND STAR (L Clement) broke gait during the score-up and a false start was declared, for which a warning was issued. It was noted that IM THE MAJORSTAR (D Perrot) also broke gait during the score-up at the first attempt to start the race.

RUN VIV RUN (R White) was out of position at the start at the second attempt, connections were advised that it would continue to be placed outside the draw in mobile start races.

Driver J Kahlefeldt was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that entering the first turn he allowed THE MANIAC to shift-in when not sufficiently clear of IM THE MAJORSTAR which was tightened.

OUR SAMS HOME (B Jones) made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader leaving the 1200 metres.

OUR SAMS HOME jumped an object on the track leaving the 200 metres, and broke gait, veered-in while galloping and as a result THE MANIAC contacted its sulky and was severely checked and broke gait, resulting in WINSOME MOOLAH (R Brewer) and IM A SHY GUY (M Harrington) being inconvenienced. The all-clear was delayed to allow Stewards to ascertain what the object was and where it came from. Following the race, it was established that the object on the track was a hopple shortener chord and after examining the patrol footage, it was apparent that it had come off IM THE MAJORSTAR near the 1000 metres. As the object was from another runner in the race all-clear was given on the judge’s numbers. At a subsequent inquiry, Driver D Perrot stated that he noticed near the 1800 metres that the hopple shortener chord looked as though it was going to become entangled in the horse’s hopples, and to prevent that from happening he pulled it back further in the sulky. He added that later in the race the end must have slipped back off the dust-sheet as it was hanging out the back of the sulky and near the 1000 metres ZULU SUE (S Plum) stood on the chord and it broke away from IM THE MAJORSTAR and fell on the track. Given the combination of events no action was taken as Stewards were satisfied that the gear on IM THE MAJORSTAR was secured as required prior to the race.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner AUCKLAND STAR.

RACE 2 – HRNSW REWARDS SERIES HEAT 2 PACE – 2270 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from MAGICAL TIMES.

MAGICAL TIMES (S Hallcroft) broke gait after the start, connections were advised that it would continue to be placed outside the draw in mobile start races.

FUNNILY ENOUGH (R Walker) raced three wide from the start before obtaining the one-out one-back position near the 1800 metres.

It was noted that WATCH ME ROCK (R Turner) hung-out under pressure upon entering the home straight.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner IM OK.

RACE 7 – SKY RACING ACTIVE CLUB MENANGLE COUNTRY SERIES HEAT – 1740 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from SVEN JASPER.

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer J Gaffney for the late declaration of Driver for ROLL WITH ROCKY.

COLARNTIE (P McRae) had a tendency to over-race during the middle stages of the event.

ROCKITA (B Duck) was held up for clear running over the concluding stages of the race.

Trainer J Gaffney was questioned over the below market expectations performance of ROLL WITH ROCKY, which showed gate speed to lead before tiring over the concluding stages. J Gaffney stated that he was disappointed with the performance and now believes the gelding may be better suited to being driven with cover. He added that with the two runners racing to their outside over-racing during the middle stages of the event the sectional times were quick and the gelding was unable to get an easier sectional to be able to finish the race off after having to work early to hold the lead.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner RODANTHE NIGHTS.

RACE 8 – RALPH BREWER PACE – 2270 metres

SO MUCH BETTOR (L Primmer), which had shown gate speed, raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader leaving the 1800 metres.

Driver S Hallcroft pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving, in that leaving the 1600 metres he allowed MACHKORI to improve up on to the back of DESTINY BELLE contacting the sulky wheel of that runner and break gait, as a result JESTER OH JESTER (B Jones) was checked, with the contact causing DESTINY BELLE to suffer a flat tyre, and it was retired from the race a short distance later. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account S Hallcroft’s guilty plea, his relative good driving record and the particular circumstances of the incident. Driver S Hallcroft had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight the 24th of September.
