RACE 1 – WEDNESDAY MIDWEEK MARKETS PACE – 2125 metres

PRIDE OF FLIGHT – Trainer M Watkins was fined $50 Rule 273(6)(b) for incorrect gear notification. 

ALWAYS A DUCHESS – Trainer R Alchin was fined $50 Rule 273(6)(b) for incorrect gear notification.  Became unbalanced and galloped shortly after the start.  In view of the mare’s recent record a warning was issued.  Checked and locked wheels rounding the first turn to the inside of MILWAUKEE SUNRISE for some distance. 

HUMMING TOP – Post-race swab sample.

RIGA DOON NZ – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until being restrained to the tail of the field at the 180 metres.

SEDSO – Pre-race blood sample.  Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1800 metres.

DARGOS PET – Checked after the start when avoiding the galloping ALWAYS A DUCHESS for some distance.  Raced three wide from the 800 metres to race without cover for the remainder of the event.

MILWAUKEE SUNRISE – Pre-race blood sample.  Driver P Green Jnr pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that entering and rounding the first turn he has shifted MILWAUKE SUNRISE down the track whilst not being clear of ALWAYS A DUCHESS resulting in those runners locking wheels and ALWAYS A DUCHESS being checked and losing its rightful racing running.  Driver P Green Jnr had his licence suspended to drive in races for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence midnight 12 January 2020.  In considering penalty Stewards considered Mr Green Jnr’s guilty plea and recent record in relation to this Rule.

RACE 2 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE – 2125 metres

HES PERFECTLY IDEAL NZ – Post-race swab sample.

PANACIAS SEAL – Pre-race blood sample. 

THANKS JACK – Slow to begin.

MODERN METROPOLIS – Pre-race blood sample.  Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1550 metres.

DREAM PLAYGIRL – Became unbalanced and galloped approaching the 1800 metres.  In view of the mare’s recent record a warning was issued.

RACE 3 – CLUB PACEAY PACE – 1720 metres

HOODED ANGEL – Post-race swab sample.

I AM SERENGETI NZ – Stewards questioned driver J Moka in relation to the overall run and performance of I AM SERENGETI NZ.  Driver J Moka explained that this was his first drive on the gelding and connections advised him that the gelding can be difficult to drive.  Mr Moka explained that throughout the event I AM SERENGETI NZ wanted to hang in on the turns and proved difficult to steer at times.  Trainer’s representative R Morris further confirmed Mr Moka’s explanation and stated that I AM SERENGETI NZ has been known in the past to be inconsistent and can race untractably at times.  Driver J Moka was further cautioned in relation to his whip use between the 400 and 200 metres.

STAR BRUTUS – Pre-race blood sample. 

MAMMALS MAGIC – Pre-race blood sample. 

DEEORSE – Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1400 metres.

ALL POSITIVE – Over raced throughout the event.

BLACK EIGHT – Driver T McCarthy reported to Stewards that his near side sulky tyre had flattened from the 800 metres and as a result the gelding raced for the remainder of the event with a flat tyre.

RACE 4 – HARNESS BREEDERS NSW GO GIRLFRIEND SERIES HEAT – 1720 metres

MATAMUA – Post-race swab sample.

JOGGLE – Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1400 metres.

PETES ART MAJOR – Unable to secure clear running in the home straight on the final occasion and was not fully tested.

FRANKIES TOOTH – Pre-race blood sample. 

FLIRTATIOUS HEART – Improved three wide from the 800 metres to race without cover for the remainder of the event.  Driver J Douglass was cautioned in relation to his whip action in the home straight on the final occasion.

IDEAL FANTASY – Improved three wide from the 1250 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1000 metres.

CALL ME MISSY – Pre-race blood sample.  Trainer N Hurst was fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for incorrect gear notification.  CALL ME MISSY was out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver A Hedges.  In view of the mare’s recent record, CALL ME MISSY will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.  CALL ME MISSY was unable to secure clear running in the home straight on the final occasion and was not fully tested.

RACE 5 – XTREME BULLS PENRITH SHOWGROUND FEB 8 PACE – 2125 metres

SKY DIAMOND NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Checked behind the weakening MY VENICE BEACH NZ between the 200 and 100 metres.  SKY DIAMOND NZ was then able to secure clear running from the 100 metres however had lost all momentum as a result of being checked behind the weakening MY VENICE BEACH NZ.

ARTY GUY – Commenced to weaken from the 600 metres to be beaten 100 metres and finished in ninth position.  Driver B O’Brien explained that ARTY GUY had been working well at home however he was very disappointed in the gelding’s performance in tonight’s event.  In view of the gelding’s performance ARTY GUY was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

TIMELY SOVEREIGN – Pre-race blood sample.  Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1750 metres.

SO MUCH BETTER – Trainer C Cross was fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for incorrect gear notification. 

THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ – Unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight until being tested from the 100 metres.

JONA JONES NZ – Post-race swab sample.

PROPHESY – Driver R Morris eased the mare out of the event passing the 1500 metres.  Mr Morris explained that during the score up until the point approaching the 1500 metres, PROPHESY did not feel right and was not travelling and as a result he elected to ease PROPHESY out of the event.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to suffered atrial fibrillation.   Acting under Rule 101C(2)(a) PROPHESY was stood down until an ECG is submitted along with a veterinary certificate of fitness, for a period 14 days (NTC) and until it completes one requalifying trial.

RACE 6 – HRNSW REWARDS SERIES HEAT – 1720 metres

SPORT CADET – Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1400 metres.  Prior to the declaration of the ‘all clear’ driver A Dawson advised Stewards that he wished to view the patrol footage in relation to an incident he believed to have taken place in the home straight on the final occasion.  After viewing the patrol footage, driver A Dawson elected to lodge a protest against third placed SPIKEADOR (M Muscat) with the grounds of the protest being interference approaching the 100 metres.  After considering the evidence available to Stewards it was established at a point approaching the 100 metres, SPORT CADET was checked and paced roughly as a result of SPIKEADOR shifting up the track to that runners inside and made contact with that runners hind leg however considering the way both runners were travelling leading up to this point and the way both runners finished off the event, Stewards were not comfortably satisfied that should the interference not have occurred, SPORT CADET would have beaten SPIKEADOR home and as a result the protest was dismissed and the all clear was given on the Judge’s numbers of 10-1-7-4.

BETTORPICKABEACH – Due to the gelding being placed outside the draw at its run at Bathurst on 6 January 2020, BETTORPICKABEACH was made EOD and as a result commenced from barrier 6.

SPIKEADOR – Hung in rounding the final turn.  Driver M Muscat pleaded guilty to charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that approaching the 100 metres he has shifted the mare up the track whilst still having SPORT CADET racing to its outside and as a result made contact with SPORT CADET’S hind leg causing SPORT CADET to be checked and pace roughly.  Driver M Muscat had his licence suspended to drive in races for a period of 10 days.  In considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Mr Muscat’s guilty plea, record in relation to the Rule, forthright evidence in the inquiry and also upcoming feature drives. Withstood a protest from fourth placed SPORT CADET.

VINCERO – Pre-race blood sample. 

WESTERN COUNTESS – Pre-race blood sample.  Galloped out at the start and took no competitive part in the event.  As this was the mare’s first race start WESTERN COUNTESS will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

CHEWALLA – Raced three wide in the early and middle stages until working forward to obtain the lead at the 1300 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

RACE 7 – TAB ODDS & EVENS PACE – 1720 metres

SO JACK – Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

JETSET STAR NZ – Pre-race blood sample. 

GOT THE SCOOP – Improved forward to obtain the lead at the 1450 metres.

COCOFOLLOWNOONE – Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1200 metres.

GEMMAS EXPRESS – Pre-race blood sample.  Raced three wide in the early stages until being restrained during the middle stages to the tail of the field at the 1200 metres.

LA SAETA NZ – Improved three wide from the 1250 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 1000 metres.

MAKE MINE GRANGE – Post-race swab sample.

RACE 8 – DRAG BINGO CLUB PACEWAY JAN 18 PACE – 1720 metres

OH DADDY – Pre-race blood sample.  Commenced to weaken from the 700 metres to be beaten 137 metres and finished in last position.  Driver R Morris explained that the filly had been quiet which was uncommon.  Driver R Morris explained that it would be the connections intention to spell the filly immediately.  In view of Mr Morris’ comments, OH DADDY was stood down for a period of 28 days.  In view of the performance of OH DADDY, the filly was further stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

MAHALA PRINCE – Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside the leader at the 14400 metres.

CALL ME MASTER – Pre-race blood sample.  Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten 74 metres.  In view of the performance of the gelding, a warning was issued.

JAYS CASH – Near side sulky wheel was contacted by FOREVER CANDY just prior to the winning post on the final occasion when FOREVER CANDY shifted up the track

SHES ALL SMILES – Hampered behind the weakening OH DADDY between the 700 and 600 metres.

THE HOUNDDOG – Hampered behind the weakening OH DADDY between the 700 and 600 metres.

FOREVER CANDY – Driver S Grima was issued a reprimand under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that in the home straight on the final occasion whilst FOREVER CANDY was hanging out under pressure, Mr Grima failed to make all reasonable efforts to prevent his runner from shifting up the track and as a result approaching the winning post has made contact with the near side sulky wheel of JAYS CASH.  In not taking more severe action, Stewards were mindful of the consequential effect of this incident, the racing manners of FOREVER CANDY and the inexperience of driver S Grima.

RACE 9 – ASAHI BEVERAGES 3YO PACE – 2125 metres

ALASTAIR LAVROS – Post-race swab sample.

POSTAL RUN – Improved three wide from the 750 metres to race without cover for the remainder of the event.

YELLA – Failed to run on over the concluding stages.

LA BOMBA – Pre-race blood sample.

OUR MONEY ROCKS – Raced greenly at various stages throughout the event.

ROCKNROLL SWINGER – Pre-race blood sample.  Raced roughly approaching the 1650 meters for a short distance.

DAMAYANTI – Improved three wide with a trail from the 750 metres.

RACE 9 – HV HARNESS RACING ASSOC PACE – 2044 metres

BARKEETA – Driver J Gallagher pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2) in that in the home straight on the final occasion he applied his whip in more than a flicking motion and in an action which engaged his shoulder.  Driver J Gallagher was fined $400 after considering his recent record in relation to this Rule.
