General

All drivers in Race 4 were subject to breath testing and returned negative results.

Prior to the commencement of Race 9, a delay was required as a result of the on-course paramedics requiring to treat a NSWHRC employee.  Consequently all races were put back one timeslot and Race 10 was re-scheduled to commence at 11.10pm.

RACE 1 – RCS PRODUCTS PACE - 1609 metres

VELOCITY STRIDE – Trainer M Formosa was issued a reprimand under Rule 41(1) for the late arrival of VELOCITY STRIDE (10 Min).  Approaching the 1400 metres was momentarily tightened when positioned to the inside of ISLAND BANNER which shifted in and away from STARDUST.  Approaching the 75 metres, was tightened when positioned between ISLAND BANNER and THE ANNOUNCER NZ which shifted wider.

THE ANNOUNCER NZ – Inconvenienced leaving the 1400 metres when improving to the inside of VELOCITY STRIDE which was taken in and away from ISLAND BANNER which was tightened and shifted in away from STARDUST.  Driver D Cernovskis was advised to exercise greater care in that near the 75 metres he had shifted his drive wider on the track in order to obtain clear running and did tighten the running of VELOCITY STRIDE for a short distance.  Driver D Cernovskis was further cautioned with regards to his whip use displayed in the home straight.

SOUNDS OF TERROR – (barrier 8) Paced roughly in the score up for a short distance.  Improved three wide near the 2000 metres until working forward to the position outside the leader approaching the 1750 metres.  Failed to run on over the final 500 metres to finish in 10th position beaten 66.8 metres.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance driver J Trainor explained that his mare was not suited by racing outside the leader for the majority of the event over the longer distance.  Driver J Trainor stated that in the early stages when he had elected to improve, he anticipated being able to work forward to the lead. Mr Trainor added that when improving, DOUBLEDELIGHTBRIGADE NZ quickened and he was left without cover and remained in that position when DANCE FOR GLORY improved to the lead. Mr Trainor added that over the concluding stages when weakening he did not ask his horse for any further effort and eased SOUNDS OF TERROR down.  In view of the performance and the horse’s individual mile rate of 1.58.8 over the 2300 metre distance Stewards issued a warning.
