RACE 6 – GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND PACE – 1609 metres

HEAVENLY SHADES – Contacted the sulky of STYX VIXEN NZ passing the 700 metres and raced roughly as a result.

STYX VIXEN NZ – Raced three wide over the final 1100 metres and tired significantly.  When questioned regarding the tactics employed on STYX VIXEN NZ trainer/driver G Bull explained that after the fast first quarter he expected the tempo of the event to slow considerably therefore he elected to improve three wide in an attempt to obtain the position outside the leader.  However once he approached the 1000 metres it became apparent that this position was unobtainable therefore he elected to steady his mare three wide for the remainder of the event.  Mr Bull added that STYX VIXEN NZ does race well when racing without cover however the fast tempo of today’s event proved to be detrimental and subsequently with the benefit of hindsight he may have been better suited to remain in the running line.  It was noted that passing the 700 metres STYX VIXEN NZ received a flat tyre when HEAVENLY SHADES which was improving at the same time as STYX VIXEN NZ was weakening contacted it’s off side sulky wheel.  Mr Bull’s explanation was noted. However he was advised to ensure he drives in a manner that does not leave him open to question.

RACE 7 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE – 2030 metres

LA PATATA – Leaving the 200 metres had to be steadied away from REGAL ROCK NZ which was shifting ground under pressure.

ROLL WITH LACHLAN – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

REGAL ROCK NZ – Inclined to hang out throughout the event and raced roughly.  The gelding hung out under pressure leaving the 200 metres despite the efforts of its driver.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg.  Adopting the veterinary recommendations REGAL ROCK NZ was stood down for a period of 14 days and until a veterinary certificate of fitness is submitted.

JASPER STYLES – Approaching the first turn became unbalanced and galloped.  In view of its recent good record a warning was issued.  Leaving the 300 metres shifted in slightly and contacted two marker pegs.  Driver J Gallagher was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.
