In view of the mare’s disappointing performance, GO ANNE GO was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its nearside hind leg and acting on veterinarian advice, the gelding was stood down until a veterinary certificate of fitness is submitted, for a period of 7 days and until it completes one requalifying trial.

AUDACE – Pre-race blood sample.

STONE CRACKER – Driver S Hewitt was questioned in relation to the overall tactics and performance of STONE CRACKER ($2.50 fav) when failing to run on and was beaten 19 metres. Mr Hewitt explained that trainer D Hewitt had instructed him to endeavour to find a forward position however as he approached the mobile barrier the gelding was not as keen as it can be. Mr Hewitt added that after the start there was significant speed inside and no positions in the running line available and as a result had to take STONE CRACKER back to the tail of the field. Mr Hewitt explained that once settling at the tail of the field, STONE CRACKER was not travelling keenly and due to the fast last half, it made it difficult to make ground over the concluding stages. Mr Hewitt further explained that at no stage did his gelding feel comfortable in the run. Stewards noted his comments and advised trainer D Hewitt if anything became apparent in the coming days with STONE CRACKER to advise Stewards.

At a subsequent inquiry it was established that ANGELIC MISS had appeared to shy at the wheel of STAR PLAY as that runner progressed down the track however Stewards were not of the view that STAR PLAY had crossed ANGELIC MISS without the required clearance and as a result did not find that ANGELIC MISS had galloped as a result of interference. In view of the mare’s recent record, ANGELIC MISS was given its last chance to race truly.
