PENSARE PRINCESS – Trainer/Driver T Allamby was questioned regarding his tactics on the mare, in particular over the last 100 metres of the race where it appeared he stopped driving the mare for a short distance when it seemed to have gained the lead. T Allamby stated that he intended to leave the mare’s earplugs in for as long as possible as she has not been finishing her races off as well as he would like, and he felt the mare was dying on its run nearing the 50 metres, so went to pull them out as a last resort after she did not seem to respond when he tapped her up with his whip prior to that. He added that the mare’s earplugs chord was stuck under his foot so it took him longer to pull them out than normal and she may have lost some momentum as a result. He further added that the mare did not respond again when he drove her out after the plugs were released. Driver T Allamby was fined the sum of $200 under Rule 156(2) in that he crossed his reins and used the whip with a free hand on two occasions after releasing the mare’s earplugs.

She added that while they were able to obtain the one-out one-back position in the early stages, with other runners making mid-race moves they were shuffled back to last by the 800 metres.
