UNIVERSAL PEGASUS – The breast plate of the mare became detached shortly after the start. a

SOBOMBA – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1900 metres.

PUMA ROAD NZ – Became unbalanced and galloped approaching the 1900 metres.  In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning was issued.

CRITICAL ADVANTAGE – Delay to the start of this event was required when the gelding required a replacement sulky when it was found to have a flat tyre during the preliminary.  Driver G Forrest explained that he affixed the club’s sulky to the gelding and as a result of the sulky being shorter than his gig his gelding commenced to contact the sulky and over raced throughout the event.  Mr Forrest was advised of his obligations under Rule 170(3).  Momentarily raced tight between DO BALL and COME AT ME passing the 300 metres.

ILLAWONG SUNNY – Hampered when avoiding the galloping PUMA ROAD NZ at the 1900 metres.

AGENT MAORI – Became unbalanced and galloped at the 500 metres.  In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning was issued.

RACE 4 – CORDINA CHICKEN FARMS PACE – 1609 metres

SEDSO – Pre-race blood sample.

MAJOR JAMANE – Hung in passing the 450 metres whilst racing in restricted room to the inside of ALL STAR MAGICIAN which was racing in a tight three wide position.  Stewards questioned Driver A Walshaw in relation to her decision to improve from the position three back on the marker pegs to the position outside the leader passing the 1000 metres.  Mrs Walshaw explained that BREACH THE BEACH and WHATTA CONK had begun quickly in the early stages and run the first quarter in a fast 26.5 seconds.  Mrs Walshaw explained that during the first half of the second quarter, the pace had significantly eased in the event and as a result she elected to improve her drive to the position outside of the leader as the gelding had performed consistently when position outside the leader in its last three starts.  Mrs Walshaw explained that she was slightly disappointed in the performance of the gelding today when failing to run on from the 400 metres to be beaten 35 metres.  Stewards noted Mrs Walshaw’s comments.

BREACH THE BEACH – Post-race swab sample.

ALL STAR MAGICIAN – Raced roughly during the score up before becoming unbalanced and galloping and was out of position at the start.  In view of the gelding’s recent record ALL STAR MAGICIAN will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.  Stewards questioned Driver L Green in relation to his decision to improve three wide from the 1050 metres to race wide until approximately the 550 metres when crossing forward of MAJOR JAMANE.  Mr Green explained that ALL STAR MAGICIAN, after making the early error had commenced to race keenly and was racing a helmet of Driver R Morris (AALESUND No 8) and as a result of his gelding’s racing manners he elected to improve forward and endeavour to obtain the position outside the leader as it appeared that Driver W Rixon which was racing in that position appeared to want cover.  Mr Green explained that he was unaware of the movement of MAJOR JAMANE from the peg line to the running line at this point, however considered his runners racing manners and still believed that this was the best option for ALL STAR MAGICIAN and elected to improve forward.  Mr Green improved approximately one length before realising MAJOR JAMANE was in that position he knew that he was then going to be required to work harder than he anticipated to obtain the position outside the leader.  Mr Green added that leaving the 600 metres his gelding commenced to hang in whilst looking to cross down forward of MAJOR JAMANE.  Considering the run afforded to ALL STAR MAGICIAN he was satisfied with the gelding’s performance.  In view of Mr Green’s comments Stewards noted his comments.

RACE 5 – MCLAREN REAL ESTATE ON THE MARKET NOW PACE – 1609 metres

PIKARSO – Stewards advised Mr Green to exercise more care in relation to his driving approaching the first turn when PIKARSO appeared to improve on to the back of SURFER BOY resulting in SURFER BOY being contacted.  Mr Green explained that PIKARSO was racing extremely keenly going into the first turn and at the same time Driver B Hewitt (SNUGGLES BANYULA) had commenced to ease the pace whilst in the lead.  Mr Green advised that considering the tempo of the event at this point was being eased as well as his gelding’s racing manners, he believed this was the reason for his gelding contacting the back of SURFER BOY momentarily.  In taking that matter no further Stewards did note Mr Green’s comments in relation to his horses racing manners and also the tempo of the event at that point.  Driver L Green was reprimanded under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that at a point approaching the 900 metres he had made insufficient effort to prevent PIKARSO improving onto the back of SNUGGLES BANYULA resulting in PIKARSO contacting the rear of the sulky of SNUGGLES BANYULA before pacing roughly for a short distance.  In not taking more severe action Stewards did note the racing manners of PIKARSO which was over racing at that point.

ANANAIS NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

SURFER BOY – Fractious during the early stages of the score up.  Hampered approaching the first turn when the rear of the sulky was contacted by PIKARSO when that runner improved on to the back of SURFER BOY.

MAJOR HUSS – Held up until obtaining clear running over the final 75 metres of the event.

SUNGGLES BANYULA – Hampered at approximately the 900 metres when having PIKARSO improve onto the back of the sulky and making contact with the rear of the sulky. Held up in the early stages of the home straight until obtaining clear running passing the 200 metres.

RONALDO NZ – Trainer T Butt was fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have the gelding gear form accurately recorded.  Became unbalanced and galloped during the early stages of the score up and was out of position at the start.  In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning was issued.   Caught racing three wide in the early stages until working forward to obtain the lead at the 1100 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

TIPPITINYA – Post-race swab sample.

CHRISTMAS TOYBOY NZ – Stewards delayed the all clear of this event to review the final 200 metres of this event when it appeared that Driver B Fitzpatrick shifted CHRISTMAS TOYBOY NZ down towards the inside of DYNAMIC BROMAC NZ and as a result appeared to contact a number of marker pegs and improve to the inside of that runner.  After reviewing the patrol footage Stewards determined that when Driver B Fitzpatrick did shift CHRISTMAS TOYBOY NZ down to the inside of DYNAMIC BROMAC NZ, he has made contact with one marker peg prior to improving to the inside. It was further established that as a result of improving to the inside of DYNAMIC BROMAC NZ, contact was made to one further marker peg however, at this stage a full run was available to CHRISTMAS TOYBOY NZ and as a result Stewards determined that no advantage was gained to the detriment of any other runner and the all clear was given on the judges numbers of 7, 8, 10 and 2.  Driver B Fitzpatrick was advised to exercise care when looking to obtain clear running to the inside of runners.

DYNAMIC BROMAC NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
