BOSCH NZ – The all clear was delayed to allow Stewards to review the final 100 metres of the event in regards to the gelding galloping near the 80 metres and as a result galloped over the line. After taking evidence from Driver B. Hewitt and reviewing the films it was established that approaching the 80 metres the gelding became unbalanced and galloped and as a result maintained its ground for some distance before commencing to lose ground just prior to the winning post. As Stewards were of the opinion that the gelding had gained an advantage to the detriment of 4th placegetter MISS MARAVU, Stewards relegated the gelding from its 3rd placing to 4th placing and the all clear was given on the numbers of 10-4-5-2. In view of the performance the gelding was stood down until it can complete one satisfactory trial.

RED TRIX – Broke after the start. A warning was issued.

GELIGNITE JOE – Worked forward to obtain the position outside the lead near the 1300 metres.

WINNERS YARN – The all clear was delayed to allow Stewards to review the start of the event to ascertain if the mare was afforded a fair start due to CANONLYBEONESIR being out of position at the start. After reviewing the films, Stewards were of the opinion that although CANONLYBEONESIR was out of position at the start which resulted in WINNERS YARN being checked and out of position, it wasn’t to the detriment of the mare’s racing position in the field and therefore the all clear was given.

ROAD RUNNER NZ – Pre race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

RACE 4 – NUTRIEN AG SOLUTIONS GOULBURN PACE – 1710 metres

FASTNFLASHY – Pre race blood sample.

CROSSFIREHALL – Pre race blood sample. When questioned regarding the driving tactics adopted on the gelding. Driver B. Carey stated that the gelding has performed well previously when racing in a forward position and therefore he elected to drive forward at the start and then surrender the lead to LA BELLA VITA NZ. B. Carey further added that he has been unable to work the gelding himself leading into this run due to being in lockdown and therefore he was unsure of the fitness levels of the gelding leading into the event. B. Carey further said that near the 300 metres he sustained a flat off side tyre due to another runner contacting it when he was tiring. After considering the evidence tendered, Stewards advised Driver B. Carey that in their opinion he erred in his tactics by continuing to pressure for the lead in the early stages of the event when racing wide on the track during a fast lead time (6.3 seconds). Furthermore B. Carey was advised that in future he is to be aware of the gelding’s condition and fitness leading into its races and if he was to drive in a similar manner in future further action may be taken.

WATTLEBANK LASS – Pre race blood sample.

ANGELIC MISS – Out of position at the start. A warning was issued. Stewards questioned Driver S. Hewitt in regards to the driving tactics adopted on the mare in particular for making a three wide move near the 1100 metres and racing wide for the remainder of the event. Driver S. Hewitt stated that following the quick lead time and 1st quarter, he was of the opinion that the tempo of the event had eased and therefore he would be able to make a mid-race move with the intention of obtaining the position outside the lead. Driver S. Hewitt further added that once moving three wide the mare failed to respond to his driving and raced flat in today’s event and never travelled comfortably like it has done in previous starts. Stewards noted the comments.

RACE 6 – HOLLINGWORTH CRANE HIRE SERVICES AUB FROST 3YO PACE – 1710 metres

ROYAL RONDEL - Tired from the 600 metres to be beaten 193 metres. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, Driver B. Hewitt stated the filly had a tendency to hang out throughout the event and near the 700 metres he elected to ease the filly out of the event as he was of the opinion that something may have been amiss with the filly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. In view of the performance the filly will be stood down until it can complete one satisfactory trial.

HERE COMES BOBBY – Out of positon at the start. The gelding will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Near the 1250 metres and again near the 200 metres became unbalanced and galloped. MAXIMUS RED – Stewards questioned Driver S. Turnbull in regards to his driving tactics near the 200 metres where he shifted from a marker peg position to the running line when the sprint lane was available and therefore being held up for the majority of the home straight. Driver S. Turnbull stated that approaching the home turn he was of the opinion that the leader ITZ MY GENERATION NZ was commencing to weaken and OUR TRIPLE PLAY which was outside he lead was gaining and advantage of that runner and therefore he elected to move wider. S. Turnbull added that once shifting to the back of OUR TRIPLE PLAY that horse didn’t continue to improve into the race and therefore he was held up for clear running until near the 50 metres before obtaining clear running. S. Turnbull further added that he was unable to shift back down to a marker peg position on entering to the home straight as MAKE MINE HEAVEN had improved to his inside and therefore he was obliged to remain racing in the one wide position. After considering the evidence tendered by Driver S. Turnbull, the explanation was noted.

ITZ MY GENERATION NZ – Stewards questioned Driver J. Callaghan in regards to the performance of the horse. J. Callaghan stated that horse travelled well during the event however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his driving and in his opinion was disappointing. J. Callaghan further added that the horse had worked well leading into today’s event and connections were expecting a forward performance. Stewards will follow up with Trainer C. Cross in the days subsequent to the event.
