KEZZAMAC – Approaching the 100 metres KEZZAMAC shifted out under pressure.  When questioned regarding his handling of KEZZAMAC over the final 200 metres driver J Brown explained that he was instructed by trainer D McDowell to lead and maintain that position at all times.  He added that he was having his first drive on KEZZAMAC and the mare had a tendency to run out shortly after the start and at various times during the event particularly near the 900 metres and the 600 metres.  He added that leaving the 200 metres he was endeavouring to maintain his position close to the marker pegs and on several occasions attempted to steer KEZZAMAC down the track.  J Brown explained that despite his efforts KEZZAMAC shifted out under pressure.  J Brown stated that once KEZZAMAC moved up the track SADHANA NZ improved quickly to his inside. At this point he could do no more to keep KEZZAMAC closer to the marker pegs therefore, he concentrated on driving the mare out to beat the runners which were improving to his outside.  After considering the evidence tendered by J Brown and reviewing all available angles Stewards noted J Brown’s explanation. However J Brown was advised to ensure that he always drives in a manner that is competitive and does not leave himself open to question.
