SMOKING ZAK –Stewards withheld the announcement of all clear to allow driver David Morris and trainer Joseph Sultana to review the films with regards to SMOKING ZAK being inconvenienced passing the 100 metres. After reviewing the films it was established that upon entry to the home straight SMOKING ZAK and Mr Morris had commenced to improve into a run that was developing to the inside of THE ROYAL ROAN, however prior to a full run being available that runner commenced to shift back down the track and placed THE ROYAL ROAN in restricted room and contacted a number of marker pegs as a result. As a result Mr Morris and Mr Sultan elected not to lodge a protest.

BETTOR BE LUCKY – Pre-race blood sample.  Improved three wide from the 900 metres and continued to race wide for the remainder of the event.

TUAKANA NZ – Improved three wide from the 850 metres.

DESERTA – Pre-race blood sample.

GIGI BOB – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1750 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

CLEMENTSORRELL – Examined prior to and following the running of this event as the gelding has competed in excesses of 200 race starts.  The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

LYNNSANITY – Over raced during the middle stages of the event.

SILLY SID – Improved three wide from the 1400 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1100 metres.  Stewards questioned driver Bryson Grima with regards to the performance of the gelding which tired over the final 400 metres of the event to finish in eighth placing beaten 56 metres.  Mr Grima advised Stewards that he was offered instructions by trainer Joe Conolly to restrain the gelding in the early stages from the wide draw and wait for the speed to come out of the event before looking to improve his position, however Mr Grima felt the gelding did not offer much as a result of having to do that work through the middle stages.  Mr Grima further advised that in hindsight it appears the gelding may not be able to do work when racing over the longer 2125 metre distance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Grima Stewards determined to note his comments.

LITTLE BLISS – Pre-race blood sample.

MOST HAPPY CULLEN – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 3 – CAROL B 20 YEARS SERVICE PACE – 1720 metres

IDEAL TERROR – Pre-race blood sample.

CRADLE OF FIRE – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1250 metres.  Stewards questioned driver Chris Geary with regards to the performance of the gelding which tired over the final 400 metres of the event to finish in ninth placing beaten 47 metres.  Mr Geary advised Stewards that he felt the horse was disappointing after having to do a fair bit of work when caught racing wide in the early stages of the event.  Mr Geary further advised that he hoped IDEAL TERROR would improve and provide him cover, however when that didn’t occur the gelding was left exposed and raced keenly.  Mr Geary further advised it would be his advice to trainer Stephen Conroy that the gelding be driven quieter in future.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Geary Stewards determined to note his comments.

KING COREY – Post-race swab sample.

ULTIMATE AD – Pre-race blood sample.

IDLE HANDS – Examined prior to and following the running of this event as the gelding is 12 years of age and has competed in excesses of 200 race starts.  The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 4 – JENNY R 20 YEARS SERVICE PACE – 2125 metres

SCHOUTEN ISLAND – Post-race swab sample.

TRUE CONFESSIONS – Pre-race blood sample.

DELIGHTFUL JAZZ – Stewards questioned driver Andrew Bourke with regards to the tactics he adopted throughout the event, in particular his decision not to commence to shift his runner wider between the 400 metres and the 200 metres, in addition to the apparent lack of vigour he displayed in the home straight.  Mr Bourke advised Stewards that the mare was hanging down the track rounding the final turn and he was having difficulty moving the runner up the track, however once he was able to do so upon entering the home straight he was able to release the deafeners and apply the whip.  Mr Bourke further advised that the mare is quite sour and resents the use of the whip and he was advised by trainer Kevin Pizzuto to restrict its use.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Bourke Stewards were not satisfied that DELIGHTFUL JAZZ was hanging to any great degree between the 400 metres and the 200 metres and that Mr Bourke had erred in not looking to commence shifting the mare wider and improve onto the back of TRUE CONFESSIONS prior to the 200 metres, however were not of the view that the tactics he adopted were to the degree that Stewards should lay a charge for unacceptable driving and determined to  remind him of his obligations to ensure he drives in a manner which provides his runners with every opportunity.

RACE 6 – GRACIE M 30 YEARS SERVICE PACE – 1720 metres

BLUE SUEDE ROCKA – Post-race swab sample.

MANHATTAN LASS – Pre-race blood sample.  Stewards questioned driver Chris Geary with regards to the performance of the filly which tired over the concluding stages of the event to finish in seventh placing beaten 59 metres.  Mr Geary advised Stewards that he felt the performance of MANHATTAN LASS was very ordinary despite the 27.8 third quarter being too quick for the filly.  Mr Geary further advised that he felt something must be amiss with the filly and the stable would look to have bloods taken in the coming days and report to Stewards if any abnormalities are detected.  A post-race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the recent record of the filly, a warning was issued.

WHEREISHE – Pre-race blood sample.  Broke stride in the latter stages of the score up and as a result was out of position at the start and took no competitive part in the event.  After considering the recent record of the gelding a warning was issued.
