SURF ACE – Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.

GIMME A REASON – Raced roughly leaving the 1400 metres, and hung-in and raced roughly near the 200 metres, connections were advised the gelding would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.

RACE 5 – BEDWELLS FEED BARN STAR TREK HEAT 2 – 1730 metres

DELIGHTFUL ME – Tightened for room when racing to the inside of WERENT WATCHING NZ entering the first turn, when that runner shifted-in.

WERENT WATCHING NZ – Hung-in entering the first turn. Driver J Brown was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that entering the first turn he made insufficient effort to prevent the mare from shifting in, while it was hanging-in, when not clear of DELIGHTFUL ME which was tightened for room. Post-race swab sampled.

ITSALLABOUTNED – Raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

KEY DEFENDER – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages of the race.

JOES REDEMPTION – Pre-race swab sampled.

RACE 6 – KNICKERBOCKER HOTEL PACE – 1730 metres

JOSHUA DYLAN NZ – Worked forward to take over the lead from PUNTERS DELIGHT near the 1000 metres. Tired over the concluding stages of the race. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, in particular appearing to challenge PUNTERS DELIGHT for the lead from the start until near the 1000 metres given the quick sectional times being set during that stage of the race, Driver P Betts stated the gelding races best when driven forward, and is difficult to drive any other way as it tends to do things wrong if you attempt to restrain it. She added that prior to the race she felt with her draw tonight and lack of apparent speed drawn to her inside, that she would be able to lead, and was surprised that PUNTERS DELIGHT showed as much gate speed as it did and held her out, but was of the opinion that it would surrender the lead to her runner in the early stages. She further added that while she knew they were going quickly in the early stages she was surprised that they had gone as quick as they had in the first quarter when she saw it, as she wasn’t placing any pressure on her runner. P Betts added that approaching the 1200 metres she attempted to steady her runner but it commenced to race ungenerously and felt if she tried to restrain it further it would break gait as it did at its previous start. As P Betts’ evidence appeared to be supported by the patrol footage, and given the gelding’s recent record, connections were advised that it would be stood down from racing for 14 days and would be required to perform 2 re-qualifying trials prior to resuming racing.

UNCLE LUKEY – Post-race swab sampled.

BANKROLL – Pre-race swab sampled. Raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1000 metres. Tired over the concluding stages of the race. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal post-race recovery. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted and performance of the gelding, Driver R Morris stated that he felt he was a victim of circumstances in that he was forced to race three wide without cover in the early stages of the race when the pace was very quick. He added that entering the first turn he initially hoped to obtain the position on the back of the favourite UNCLE LUKEY in the running line, but was unable to do so as PRINCE PARKER had obtained that position prior to him being able to do so. He further added that he felt if he restrained to the rear of the field at that stage and conceded a big start then to the favourite, he would have no chance of winning so elected to push forward in the belief that the runners ahead would ease the pace. R Morris further added however, that they did not ease and he had to work his runner too hard to get to the position outside the leader, which resulted in the gelding not being able to finish the race off.

RACE 7 – BAKERS BUTCHERY PACE – 1730 metres

BOOMER SHANNON – Inconvenienced behind the tiring LUCKY TERROR approaching the 400 metres.

YAREADYFREDDY – Pre-race swab sampled. Raced roughly near the 1600 metres, for which a warning was issued. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

KULANI COURAGE – Post-race swab sampled.

LUCKY TERROR – Tired over the concluding stages and beaten by a considerable margin. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised the gelding would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.

RACE 8 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE – 1730 metres

MY SWEET SABRINA – Post-race swab sampled.

MISS RABBITOH – Hung-out leaving the 1000 metres.
