RACE 1 – GOODTIME LODGE PACE – 2120 metres

GOTTA KICK – When questioned in relation to his driving, W Cassell explained that he had intended to obtain a position outside the lead and allow GOTTA KICK to race at a solid tempo as it was his opinion that the gelding is one paced and best suited when racing in this position. He said that when attempting to achieve this TULHURST TERROR which was racing outside the leader was driven vigorously in the early stages to maintain this position and because of this GOTTA KICK was trapped three wide for a considerable distance in the early and middle stages. He said that in the back straight on the first occasion he was forced to steady for a considerable distance to obtain cover and after doling this at the rear of the field GOTTA KICK hung in which precluded him from maintaining a position in the running line and GOTTA KICK shifted to the marker pegs. He said that he was again obliged to steady when racing inside UPTONGIRL entering the back straight on the final occasion when runners in front of him weakened and after obtaining clear running GOTTA KICK responded well and ran to the finish evenly.

UPTONGIRL – Was hampered and forced wider passing the 400 metres when avoiding TROPICAL STORM which galloped at that stage.

GRINORAMA which was following POPPY FRANCO could not avoid FEELGOOD EXPRESS, blundered and eventually fell with L Rusten being dislodged from the sulky. When being checked ROCKY LEIGH became significantly unbalanced and P Jenkins was dislodged from the sulky. P Jenkins was subsequently treated on course by the attending paramedics then transported to Dubbo Base Hospital for further observation. A Castle, J Dean and L Rusten were all examined by the on course paramedics, with A Castle and L Rusten being cleared to fulfil further engagements. J Dean was advised to attend a facility to have his left shoulder x- rayed. Subsequently POPPY FRANCO, ROCKY LEIGH, GRINORAMA and FEELGOOD EXPRESS were all late scratchings at 7:40pm acting on veterinary advice.
