RACE 1 – ALLIED EXPRESS TAXI TRUCK SERVICES PACE – 2300 metres

MY BUZZ LIGHTNING NZ – Approaching the 200 metres was unable to secure clear running and shifted out MY BUZZ LIGHTNING NZ then received a contact to its off side wheel when TWENTYEIGHTBLACK made slight contact.  Subsequently MY BUZZ LIGHTNING NZ failed to run on over the concluding stages.

TWENTYEIGHTBLACK – Near the 200 metres when endeavouring to obtain clear running raced up strongly to behind MY BUZZ LIGHTNING NZ which was shifting ground and made slight contact with the off side wheel of MY BUZZ LIGHTNING NZ.  At a subsequent inquiry it was established that MY BUZZ LIGHTNING NZ was shifting out at the same time as TWENTYEIGHTBLACK was racing keenly and subsequently no direct action was taken except that to remind driver L Green to exercise care when presented with similar circumstances in the future.

EXPERIA NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Post-race swab samples were obtained.

PROSECUTION WITNESS NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

SHANNONSTHEMAN – Passing the 75 metres driver B Elder dropped his whip.

RACE 2 – BEST IN BEDS PACE – 2300 metres

BAD TO THE BONE NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Unable to secure clear running between the 200 metres and the 75 metres.

UNDERWORKED – Underwent a pre and post-race veterinary examination as per HRNSW’s animal welfare guidelines.  No abnormalities were detected.

ELLMERS IMAGE NZ – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

BUNDORAN NZ – Driver A Turnbull pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(3) for applying her whip to BUNDORAN NZ in a continuous manner from the 200 metres to the finish.  A Turnbull was fined the sum of $200.

FOUROEIGHT – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Unable to secure clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.  When questioned regarding the tactics employed over the final 500 metres driver M Rue explained that the tempo of the event during the middle stages, particularly between the 1000 metres and the 600 metres, was faster than expected and FOUROEIGHT did not give him the feel that he was travelling well.  He added that approaching the 400 metres when BAD TO THE BONE NZ shifted out he improved into that vacant position however FOUROEIGHT was not giving him the indication that the horse would finish the race off well. Therefore he elected shift back down toward the marker pegs as he believes the gelding travels better when racing closer to the marker pegs.  He added that leaving the 300 metres FOUROEIGHT raced between runners and started to travel strongly but in his opinion FOUROEIGHT was flattered by the fact that several runners around him at that point were weakening.  M Rue explained that he was always racing well inside of BUNDORAN therefore did not consider trying to restrain and follow that runner into the race near the 350 metres. M Rue’s explanation was noted however he was advised to always ensure that he explores all opportunities at all times for unimpeded clear runs.

RACE 3 – CORDINA FARMS OUTLET PACE – 2300 metres

UNCLE JAY – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Leaving the 2100 metres was momentarily placed in restricted room by ZIGGY ROCKS which shifted in.

ZIGGY ROCKS – Passing the 2100 metres had a tendency to lay in before being corrected by its driver then shortly after when going to the lead, ZIGGY ROCKS shifted in when not quite clear of UNCLE JAY.  Driver J Gallagher was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

THE MUSTANG – Inclined to over race when racing in the position outside of the leader.

ILIKEMEBETTOR – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

ISLAND FIRE DANCE – Leaving the 300 metres commenced to weaken and tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 54 metres.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.  When questioned, driver J Trainor explained that he did make use of the mare in the first 200 metres to cross to the lead and to ensure that VINCENT VAN GONE NZ had to work to cross his runner.  Despite this, he then was afforded an economical run from the 1200 metres. He added that from the 500 metres the mare had a tendency to run in and once it lost the back of the leader entering the home straight the mare failed to respond to his driving.  Trainer J Grimson explained that he was disappointed with the performance however was unable to offer an explanation. He added that the mare had been working well and he was confident leading into tonight’s event.  J Grimson stated that he would now consult with connections before making any further plans.  J Grimson was advised that ISLAND FIRE DANCE would be stood down for a period of seven days and until it can complete one satisfactory trial for what was deemed to be an unsatisfactory and inconsistent performance.
