ANYTHING GOES NZ – Stewards questioned driver Josh Gallagher with regards to the performance of the gelding which finished in eighth placing beaten 11 metres.  Mr Gallagher advised Stewards that trainer Kevin Pizzuto is still figuring the horse out, being relatively new to the stable.  Mr Gallagher advised that its best New Zealand form was generally when racing from the stand start over the longer distances and may not be suited to the Menangle mile.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

I BREAK THE LINE – Post-race swab sample.

OOGA CHAKA – Pre-race blood sample.

DOUBLE ACT – Held up over the final 100 metres of the home straight.

VIKSUN – Pre-race blood sample.  Stewards questioned driver Darren Binskin with regards to the performance of the mare which tired over the final 600 metres to finish in seventh placing 114 metres.  Mr Binskin advised Stewards that the mare was completely out graded in tonight’s event and probably has run the fastest mile it has ever run at Menangle.  Mr Binskin further advised that in his opinion the mare had pulled up fine and would be restricted in future to racing in the lower class Tuesday’s meetings.  A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the recent record of the mare, it was given its last chance to race truly and trainer Brad Abbott was reminded to ensure he nominates his runners in races where they may be competitive.

THE LOCOMOTIVE – Pre-race blood sample.  Worked forward to the lead passing the 2000 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

CAPTAIN RITCHIE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and placed SHADES OF HEAVEN in restricted room to the inside of WEONA SIR VIVOR.

TITIAN RAIDER – Pre-race blood sample.  Raced rough under pressure.  Post-race swab sample.  Stewards questioned driver David Morris with regards to the somewhat improved performance of the gelding this evening.  Mr Morris advised Stewards that the gelding had found a suitable race this evening and was able to be driven on speed where at its most recent races it has been unsuited having to be driven with a sit.  Mr Morris further advised that the gelding races best when able to roll along at the front of the field.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Morris, Stewards determined to note his comments.

SHADES OF HEAVEN – Placed in restricted room over the concluding stages when CAPTAIN RITCHIE shifted out under pressure.

DIAMOND ECLIPSE – Pre-race blood sample.

ARGENT PEAK – Raced roughly after the start.  Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1100 metres.  Stewards questioned driver Seaton Grima with regards to the performance of the gelding which tired over the final 500 metres to finish in ninth placing beaten 75 metres.  Mr Grima advised Stewards he was very disappointed with the performance of the gelding and was unable to explain the performance.  Mr Grima further added that the gelding just has not returned from its most recent spell and he elected to freshen the gelding as a result of a few hard runs, however that didn’t appear to assist.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed to gelding to be suffering from a poor post race recovery. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.
