BEANCOUNTER – Fractious when leaving the score up and as a result was slow to gather speed and was out of position at the start. A warning was issued. Driver Miss C Masotti was questioned on the tactics adopted and the overall performance of the gelding which tired out of the event to finish in 10th and last position beaten 58.1 metres. Miss Masotti stated the gelding after being slow to score up was able to obtain a position in the running line, when leaving the 1400 metres commenced to over race and improved onto the back of JASPERSTIMETOSHINE and as a result was inconvenienced and shifted three wide. In having difficulty to restrain the gelding  she worked forward three wide until not being able to obtain the position outside the lead at the 1000 then restrained to the tail of the field. Miss Masotti further added the gelding contacted its sulky throughout the event. Considering the racing manners of BEANCOUNTER the gelding will be given its last chance to race truly.

FIRESTORM RED - Pre and post-race veterinary examination as the gelding has had over 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Driver J Coney was questioned on the tactics and the overall performance of the gelding when able to lead the event yielded ground over the final 600 metres to finish in 9th and last position. He stated from a favourable barrier draw it was his instructions to attempt to lead on the gelding and when challenged for some distance after the start by BETTORS HOPE he elected to press forward and was able to lead leaving the 1300 metres. After finding the lead he was then challenged by BAXTER RED from the 1200 metres when that runner worked forward three wide to race outside the leader, passing the 600 metres FIRESTONE RED failed to respond when placed under pressure. After considering Mr Coney’s evidence, Stewards were of the opinion he had erred in his tactics after finding the lead by not taking cover of BAXTER RED or restrain his drive to gain a easy third quarter considering the work he had to do in the early stages. However Mr Coney’s drive was not culpable enough to take any action against his licence but he was advised to drive his runners to instructions where possible but consider them to be within  the horses capabilities.
