Rare day out for Turnbull

20 June 2021

IT IS rare for Bathurst trainer Josh Turnbull to have any more than two or three runners engaged at a race meeting.

Yet, this afternoon Turnbull will be represented by five horses at the Cowra Harness Racing Club’s Carnival of Cups meeting.
Better-known for his expertise as a horse breaker, Turnbull enjoys nothing more than training a nice pacer . . . and he has had his fair share of them.
“Things are getting busy at home again as I have quite a number of my racing stock in full work and then there are some more weanlings coming being handled and broken in,” said Josh.
“I really like racing at Cowra, and it is their big day.
“So, I am heading there thinking that all five of my horses have an even chance of getting their share of the good prizemoney on offer.”
The Tri Tech Cowra Cup is the feature race and Josh has Yes You May engaged in the race.
The gelding raced in the Western Region TAB Championship Final at Bathurst last month and was not all that far away when he finished fifth there last weekend.
“Yes You May has drawn barrier three in the Cup, which is not ideal for him as he races best when he is smothered up.
“Having said that he was luckless last Sunday as he never got out.
“If Isobel (Ross-Driver) can produce some magic, I am sure he can figure in the finish.
“Just Won More (Race 8) has been pleasing me with his work at home and from his good backline draw, I rate him as my best chance.
“I was really rapt in his run last week when he was given no favours after having to launch from the back off a slow speed.
“If the race is run more to his liking, I think he will be too strong.”
Itsallaboutned is another of Josh’s runners that he rates highly.
“He has drawn to get a good run through from gate eight in the Country Series heat,” said Turnbull.
“He raced in one of these series a few weeks ago and qualified for the Final where he was not disgraced.
“Paul Davison is a great owner of mine and I would love it if Ned could win for him so he can have another crack at Menangle.”
