Alchin a strong chance at Bathurst

MENANGLE trainer Jarrod Alchin was hoping to cross the Blue Mountains tonight with a big chance of landing a winning treble at Bathurst Paceway.

Instead two of his fancies He Can Fly and Slice Of Heaven are scratched leaving him to rely on Shes Sporty in Race 8, the final leg of the quaddie.

“He Can Fly will be sent for a spell after disappointing at Penrith last Thursday,” said Alchin.

“And Slice Of Heaven has a foot abscess so he’ll also go for a break.

“It’s a shame because he trialled super the other day to Eh Ef El at Menangle.

“I think he is a very nice horse but he has really bad feet causing him to be disappointing at his last two starts,’’ Alchin added of the sparingly raced four-year-old blessed with high speed.

Shes Sporty is a lightly raced two-year-old previously trained in the Riverina by David Kennedy and has a lot to live up to.

The daughter of Sportswriter is owned by David’s wife Kylie and is just another rising star Kennedy has sent to the Alchin stables for bigger riches.

They have teamed up in the past to win many races including Group 1 New South Wales Oaks winner Shes A Runner, Deadsetlucky, Kenmore Atya, Sporty Spook and Goeslikell.

“She come to my place with a pretty good opinion of her,’’ Alchin added.

“David said on ability alone she could be the best he has had,” a comment worth noting considering the class of previous stablemates.

“She has issues we are ironing out on the big track. Her main aim will be the NSW Breeders Challenge.”

Shes Sporty looks to have far too much class for her rivals tonight.

She was outstanding last start when third in a 1:54.1 mile to the unbeaten My Sweetchilliphilly in the Group 3 Pink Bonnet Classic at Menangle.

She actually ran a faster last 800m and 400m sectionals than the winner with her last half of 56.20 the quickest in the race.

Alchin was wrapt in the performance and believes the best is still to come.

“She got a little bit lost at a couple of stages in the Pink Bonnet,” Alchin said.

“She has trained on sensational style and her work on Sunday was super.’’

“She is definitely a filly with huge potential and one that is on the way up,” he concluded.

Whether you see the name Michael Muscat as a trainer or driver tonight the Londonderry horseman will be worth following.

He landed a big priced winner at Fairfield on Monday to celebrate his birthday and has several top chances tonight with the best being Art Of Pipi.
