Stepping up

1 February 2021

SHE is just 16-year-old and Taylah Osmond is already following in the footsteps of her father Scott, who has shown plenty of talent as an ace reinsman for more than three decades.

Whilst still at High School, Taylah has driven five winners to date.
Based in Canberra, Scott and his father Ian have always had a handy horse in their stable and are currently enjoying a great run with Little Archie, which they purchased in November from Ganmain horseman, Ray Turner.
Since joining the Osmond’s team, Little Archie has found a new lease of life, winning three of his five starts for them.
And it seems as though Tayah has developed a great affinity with the gelding as she has driven him in each of those wins.
“I love driving this bloke, he seems to respond to my driving and I have scored some exciting wins with him,” she said.
“I really loved the way he got to the line at Temora two starts back.
“He was spotting the leaders a healthy start leaving the back and came over the top of them in the straight to win running away.
“I am finding driving in races very exciting.
“Every horse and each race are different, it is certainly a bit different to how I thought it would be and I always look forward to heading to the races; I am absolutely loving it.”
Tonight, Taylah is at home at Exhibition Park in Canberra where she has five drives on a solid nine-race program while her father Scott has four drives.
Two heats of the Henry Rixon Memorial headline the meeting, the series culminating in a final at Canberra in a fortnight’s time.
Taylah believes the horses she is driving in the Series can both qualify for the decider.
“Little Archie (Race 4) has been going great and he has drawn well in barrier one,” she said.
“He is at big odds, but I feel that he can mix it with them.
“I also think Francisco De Gore (Race 3) can go well as he drops in grade from the races he has contested at Goulburn and Menangle over the past few weeks.”
