The final ever race meeting at the Bathurst Showground is less than two months away, but a lot more than a brand new facility will come with the move to Mount Panorama.
While the industry undoubtedly loses a part of history, an element of it is created at the same time.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW), in conjunction with the Bathurst Harness Racing Club (BHRC), has resolved to introduce a sprint lane and a mobile configuration of eight and four, to allow for a maximum field size of 12, from the initial race meeting on 10 October.
It was determined that the most opportune time to experiment with a sprint lane is from the outset of the track’s opening and the move to increase the maximum field size is linked to the turnover benefits that go with larger field sizes.
A review of these key decisions will be undertaken by HRNSW after 31 March 2015; the results of which may determine the strategic direction at the new Wagga and Tamworth tracks as well as other existing venues in the state.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
