Hewitt prepares for her biggest race yet

3 March 2021

BATHURST horsewoman Gemma Hewitt is preparing for one of the biggest races of her career at Menangle this Saturday night.

Hewitt has her beloved pacer Kashed Up in the Group 1 NSW Derby.
To be driven by her father Bernie Hewitt, Kashed Up finished second in his NSW Derby heat to Tasty Delight in a mile rate of 1:55.9 seconds for the 2400m qualifier.
The gelding has only had 14 starts to date, including four wins and five placings.
However, before Hewitt heads across the Blue Mountains to tackle the Blue Riband, she has commitments at her local track tonight.
Hewitt has two horses making their racing debut as well as a drive for her father on Crazy Shippo in race four.
The latter won his last three starts before given a spell. Hewitt will also drive her pacer Amami in race 10 and has enlisted her father to drive Come On Sloppy in race eight.
