Oz tag and horses - Amy juggles it all

7 July 2021

BEING involved in harness racing often makes participants too busy to pursue other interests, however Goulburn trainer, driver Amy Day shines in the world of Oz tag and League Tag.

Day has been selected in the Australian 30’s Women’s Oz tag side which will compete in New Zealand this September.
She is also a integral member of the Goulburn Bulldogs Ladies League Tag side.
“Being involved in League Tag is a great diversion away from the horses, but sometimes it does make me very busy juggling between the two sports,” said Amy.
“Dad [Neil] and I help each other with our respective teams and between us we have 30 horses in training.
“When time permits, I try to get to as many race meetings and I can and I am happy to drive for different trainers, most of whom are located in the Goulburn and Canberra area.
“One trainer who supports me in a big way is Corey Parker, who trains his horses from his Murrumbateman base.
“We have had some really good success over the past few months, and I think that run of success can continue at Bathurst tonight.”
Day has a healthy book of drives as she will drive in seven of nine races on a strong program.
Three of those are for Cory Parker, including Art Major gelding Bracken Warrior, who has been assessed as the favourite in early betting markets in Race 3.
“My best winning hope looks to be Bracken Warrior, who did not get a lot of luck here last week when he contested the Country Final,” said Amy.
“He ran fifth in that race after coming from near last and was only beaten by a little over a length.
“Before that he ran second at both Bathurst and Canberra so his recent form stacks up well for tonight’s race and he should go close to breaking through for a well-deserved win.”
Day was close to landing a winning double at Bathurst last week, scoring aboard Jimmyjoe and being beaten by a half head when driving Shoobees Charm.
“Jimmyjoe won so well last week, racing clear to score by almost 19 metres and posting a smart 1.56.4 mile rating.
“He is only lightly-raced and draws well in barrier one tonight.
“He is a horse that I think will progress through his grades fairly quickly.”
