Team McDowell to keep busy
20 December 2021
THE training partnership of Dean and Kerry McDowell will certainly have their hands full over the next two days.
Their Allied Express Pacing and Trotting establishment heads to Goulburn this afternoon where they have five horses racing and then tomorrow, they will load up from their Mulgoa base and travel to Newcastle with a huge consignment of 11 pacers.
“We are fortunate that we are fairly centrally based,” said co-trainer Dean McDowell.
“We are in close proximity to six tracks, all of which we utilise to place our horses in suitable races.
“Penrith is our home track, and we always like to support Bankstown.
“But it is not far for us to go to Menangle, Goulburn, Newcastle or even Bathurst.
“Kerry and I currently have 20 horses racing and another five yearlings in work that are about to turn two.
“Although it is still early days there are a couple of young ones that we have a good opinion of, and our smart mare Michelle Lee Mac is not far away from making her return to the racetrack.
“Our team is racing very consistently at the moment, so everything is going well for us.
“Another big plus is that we have access to a band of good drivers who are prepared to jump on our horses.
“Lleyton Green is one of our stable drivers who has been a real revelation this season.
“He continues to go from strength to strength and brought up 50 winners for the year last Thursday night at Penrith.
“Looking at the five runners we have in at Goulburn this afternoon, I feel that our best chance of landing a winner rests with Bertie Jones in the final event.
“He is an ultra-consistent type that has been racing in strong company.
“He only has to re-produce that form here to be hard to toss.”
The gelding was a Newcastle winner on December 6 when he rated 1.56 and stormed home after racing midfield.
McDowell also gives Bettor Sensation a good chance of winning in Race 8.
The gelding ran a good race to finish second at Tabcorp Park Menangle behind Captain Dan last start and although he has not won since September, he gets his chance to atone here.
“Bettor Sensation should be thereabouts and is good each-way value today,” said McDowell.
