Yes You May brings good form into Star Trek Final
22 February 2023
THE Bedwells Feed Barn Star Trek is a much sought-after race on the agenda, particularly for western districts trainers.
The $20,000 event is a feature on the Bathurst Harness Racing Club’s calendar and boasts an honour roll filled with talented pacers to have won this race.
This year’s running is again sponsored by the Frisby family, who not only operate Bedwells Feed Barn but have also become a successful racing enterprise with a huge support base.
Tonight’s final sees one of the most open in recent years and Chris and Anthony Frisby are in the mix after qualifying two horses for the race.
The Frisby runners each have realistic chances after performing well in their respective qualifying heats and both have drawn ideally with Major Holiday in gate two for Anthony and Uncle Miki to start from gate nine with Phoebe Betts in the gig.
Another horse that stamped his presence in the series was the Josh Turnbull-trained Yes You May (pictured).
He was shuffled back to the tail of the field in his heat and faced a huge task.
But he showed a dazzling turn of foot, coming from last at the top of the straight to overhaul his rivals and run away for an emphatic 2.6 metre victory, clocking a fast 1:54.9 mile rate.
Turnbull believes that this is the best way to drive the gelding and is hoping a hot tempo will be set again tonight.
“He tracks speed very well and can produce a strong finishing burst off the back of that,” said Josh.
“Last week’s race just played so perfectly into Isobel’s hands and I am hoping tonight’s final unravels the same way.
“These are the races we always strive to win.
“It is excellent prizemoney, and this bloke was bred and is owned by my wife Jess.”
Known as one of the best educators of a young horse in the state, it is a busy time of the year for Turnbull with the upcoming yearling sales seeing many breeders and owners sending their youngsters to his stable to be broken in.
“It is a hectic period for us, that’s for sure,” said Turnbull.
“But I have a lot of good help at home and we all get in and get the job done.
“That makes things a lot easier for me.”
