GENERAL

CORDINA CHICKEN FARMS CHARIOTS OF FIRE (GROUP 1)

All horses, including emergencies entered in Race 8, Cordina Chicken Farms Chariots Of Fire were required to be presented prior to midday on Thursday February 14.

All horses on arrival were subject to out-of-competition blood samples.

Trainer D Hewitt (BOYD WRITER) was questioned in relation to the circumstances surrounding the late arrival of the gelding to the HRNSW retention barn. It was established that on the morning of the 14th, Mr Hewitt was required to assist a local trainer with a horse emergency. Supporting evidence was also provided to Stewards. In the circumstances, Stewards permitted BOYD WRITER to remain in the field and no action was taken against Mr Hewitt. 

 

Due to driver D Binskin being indisposed, the following driving changes were approved.

Race 1 – ALPINE STRIDE – C Hart

Race 5 – CHERRY STRIDE – T McCarthy

 

Due to driver P Morris being indisposed, the following driving change was approved.

Race 9 – ALL ROYAL GAL NZ – R Morris

 

The following trainers were issued a reprimanded under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have gear forms accurately recorded for the following runners;

Race 3 – R Williams – GOTTASHOPEARLY

The following trainers were fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have gear forms accurately recorded for the following runners;

The following horses were all examined and passed fit to race by the club’s veterinarian as a result of a road incident en route to the race course;

RACE 1 – ASHLEES BABE PACE (HEAT 1) – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from WRANGLER NZ and SHAPE UP MIKE.

Pre-race blood samples (full screen) were taken from OUR WALL STREET WOLF NZ.

Driver T McCarthy (SHAPE UP MIKE) was fined $50 under Rule 135(1) for failing to ensure his drive was in the parade ring by the prescribed time.

Driver C Geary (RICH VIRGIN – Barrier 10) was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into position by the starting point.

Near the 1400 metres, TRALEE BROMAC NZ was eased slightly when improving slightly to the inside of MACKERAL which shifted into the running line position.

COME CULLECT improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader approaching the 1200 metres.

REDBANK ADDI was held up for clear running until passing the 150 metres.

RICH VIRGIN had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 100 metres.

Post-race swab samples were taken from WRANGLER NZ.

RACE 2 – FREEDOM FARMS PACE – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from SPARE ME DAYS and SAPPHIRE SWAYZE.

The all-clear was delayed to allow Stewards an opportunity to review the home straight in particular DASHOFLUCK NZ breaking gait when improving to the inside MURRY passing the 200 metres. On review it was established that DASHOFLUCK NZ broke gait free of any interference and therefore the all-clear was given. At a subsequent inquiry a warning was issued against DASHOFLUCK NZ.

A false start was called when SAPPHIRE SWAYZE (barrier 8) was fractious during the score up and locked wheels with MURRY. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

EH EF EL NZ (barrier 2) broke gait during the score up and was out of positon at the start. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.  

SALOON PASSAGE NZ improved three wide until obtaining the positon outside the leader passing the 1200 metres.

MY GENERAL LEE had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 150 metres and was held up in the concluding stages of the event.

Drivers M Towers (MY GENERAL LEE) and B Hewitt (SPARE ME DAYS) were both cautioned in relation to their whip use in the home straight.

Post-race swab samples were taken from SALTY ROBYN NZ.

RACE 3 – CORDINA FOODS PACE (HEAT 2) – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from OUR AMERICAN PRINCESS NZ and DOUBLE ENCOUNTER.

LUVUMUM (barrier 6) broke gait during the score up. In view of the mare’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Driver L Tritton (HANDSOME HERO NZ – Barrier 9) was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into positon by the starting point.

ROYAL GAMBLE NZ improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 950 metres.

ARMA THE GUN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and over the final 150 metres the gelding was tested.

OUR AMERICAN PRINCESS NZ was held up for clear running for the entire length of the home straight and was not fully tested.

DREAM TO SHARE NZ was held up for clear running for the entire length of the home straight and was not fully tested.

Driver M Callaghan (ROYAL GAMBLE NZ) explained that when caught wide in the early stages he maintained his position as he was looking to see how the tempo would be. Mr Callaghan stated that as GOTTASHOPEARLY moved forward to the lead, the tempo backed off at which point he elected to improve his drive. Mr Callaghan added that he was a little disappointed in the overall run of his gelding and noted that his horse was housed at the HRNSW Retention Barn for the previous two days away from its regular routine.

Driver A Turnbull (DREAM TO SHARE NZ) was questioned in relation to her tactics in particular her option to take the gelding to a marker pegs position near the 1400 metres. Ms Turnbull explained that her gelding is best suited when driven as a sit sprint type and when three pegs was available early in the race, she took that position up. Ms Turnbull stated that she had anticipated ARMA THE GUN holding the lead and was shuffled back to 4 pegs once GOTTASHOPEARLY improved forward to the lead. Ms Turnbull added that she had always been looking for a marker peg run and over the concluding stages she was unable to obtain clear running. Stewards noted her comments.

Post-race swab samples were taken from GOTTASHOPEARLY and DOUBLE ENOCUNTER.

RACE 4 – STEVE LESTER PACE – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from DU VELLA NZ and AFTERDINNERSPEAKER NZ.

AFTERDINNERSPEAKER NZ cast its offside fore plate during the event.

EFFRONTE obtaining a run between runners near the 150 metres.

LIVING AGAIN NZ had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight but was tested over the concluding stages.

EFFRONTE will now be re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

Post-race swab samples were taken from EFFRONTE.

RACE 5 – CORDINA FAMILY SIBELIA STAKES (GROUP 2) – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from VILLAGE WITCH, IMA MYSTERY GIRL, MAJOR OCCASION and EYE SEE DIAMONDS.

Driver J Grimson (VILLAGE WITCH) was fined $50 under Rule 135(1) for failing to ensure his drive was in the parade ring by the prescribed time.

CHERRY STRIDE, which was caught wide in the early stages was restrained to the rear of the field near the 1100 metres.

Passing the 600 metres, ROCKER BAND NZ commenced to hang in and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Driver A Butt explained that he was disappointed in the run in particular that his drive was under pressure leaving the back straight when in his opinion his mare is capable of running the recorded sectionals. Mr Butt added that post-race ROCKER BAND NZ had a high heart rate and connections will monitor the mare’s recovery. Stewards will follow up with Trainer T Butt in the subsequent days.

BRIDGET BLUE CHIP NZ was held up for a short distance near the 150 metres.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MAJOR OCCASION.

RACE 6 – HRNSW GUARANTEED LADYSHIP STAKES – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from MY VENICE BEACH NZ and FAME ASSURED.

REAL OBSESSION NZ (barrier 1) galloped out at the start. In view of the mare’s recent record, a warning was issued.

FAME ASSURED improved three wide passing the 1100 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 800 metres.

Driver M Rue (CALLMEQUEENBEE) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2) for applying his whip in more than a flicking motion whilst engaging his should in the home straight. Mr Rue was fined $200 after considering his recent offence history.

Driver I Ross (BETTER BE DONNA NZ) was cautioned regarding her whip use in the later stages of the home straight in particular the continuous use.

Post-race swab samples were taken from CALLMEQUEENBEE.

RACE 7 – DANIEL CORDINA PACE – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from POWER OF RED and CONVICTION.

MAJORDAN, which displayed gate speed, worked forward in the three wide positon until obtaining the lead near the 1150 metres.

Passing the 600 metres, POWER OF RED commenced to hang in and lost ground. As a result, RAKAROLLA NZ and AZTEC BROMAC NZ was both hampered and taken back.

BLAZIN N CULLEN NZ was held up for clear running over the final 100 metres and was not fully tested.

RAKAROLLA NZ had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight. Stewards questioned driver T McCarthy into the apparent lack of vigour displayed in the home straight, Mr McCarthy explained that at no stage in the home straight there was or appeared to be any option of clear running and as his gelding was still doing its best work he saw not benefit in placing his drive under any further pressure.

Driver N Turnbull (POWER OF RED) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2) for applying his whip in more than a flicking motion whilst engaging his should in the home straight. Mr Rue was fined $200 after considering his recent offence history.

RACE 8 – CORDINA CHICKEN FARMS CHARIOTS OF FIRE (GROUP 1) – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples (full screen) were taken from POSTER BOY and IGNATIUS.  

RACKEMUP TIGERPIE was examined and passed fit to take its place in the field when leaving the HRNSW Retention Barn.

THE BLACK PRINCE NZ was examined and passed fit to take its place in the field when leaving the HRNSW Retention Barn.

RACKEMUP TIGERPIE improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1000 metres.

IGNATIUS improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 700 metres.

THE BLACK PRINCE NZ had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight but was tested over the concluding stages.

BOYD WRITER was held up for clear running until obtaining an inside run near the 100 metres.

ASHLEY LOCAZ NZ was held up for clear running until the 200 metres.

A post-race veterinary examination of CHASE AUCKLAND NZ failed to reveal any abnormalities.

An inquiry was opened into the running and handling of CHASE AUCKLAND NZ in the home straight on the final occasion. Following driver N Rasmussen providing an explanation into her drive, the inquiry was adjourned to allow Stewards to make further inquiries into the running of the event. The inquiry is set to resume at Menangle, Saturday 23rd February.

Stewards intend to inquire into the whip use displayed by Driver A Butt (HAIL CHRISTIAN NZ) in the home straight. The inquiry will take place at Menangle, Saturday 23rd February.

Post-race swab samples were taken from POSTER BOY (1st), ASHLEY LOCAZ NZ (2nd) and HAIL CHRISTIAN NZ (3rd).

RACE 9 – CORDINA CHICKENS KEYSTONE DEL TROTTERS FREE FOR ALL (GROUP 3) – 2300 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from IONA GRINNER and BACARDI HURRICANE.

The start of this event was delayed when KOWHAI MONARCH NZ reared and spun sideways knocking Driver T McCarthy (ITS ELVIS NZ) out of his sulky. Due to the incident, Mr McCarthy was examined by the on track paramedics and deemed not suitable to take his drive. Stewards approved L Tritton as the late replacement. Following the notice of the driving change, Stewards were advised that ITS ELVIS NZ was observed by the on-course veterinarian to be lame in its nearside hind leg. Acting on this report, ITS ELVIS NZ was declared a late scratching at 10:22pm.

KOWHAI MONARCH NZ was examined and passed fit to take its place in the field.

No action was taken against GRINS MADE A BLUE (barrier 2) and BACARDI HURRICANE (barrier 7) for being out of position at the start due to the delay.

KOWHAI MONARCH NZ (barrier 8) broke gait during the score up and was out of position at the start. The gelding will now be given its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

Near the 2150 metres, ALL ROYAL GAL NZ became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the mare’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Shortly after entering the home straight on the final occasion, PRINCESS PHOENIX became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the mare’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Stewards intent to interview driver A Butt (PRINCESS PHOENIX) in relation to his driving tactics during the event. The inquiry will take place at Menangle, Saturday 23rd February.

Following the event, ITS ELVIS NZ was subject to a secondary examination and found to have no abnormalities. In the circumstances, no action was taken against the gelding.

Post-race swab samples were taken from BLAZING UNDER FIRE NZ.

RACE 10 – JOHN CORDINA PACE (HEAT 3) – 1609 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from FRANCO LANDRY NZ and TEAM OF STARZZZ.

Approval was granted for J Trainor to replace T McCarthy as the driver of THE RED MOON RISING NZ due to the incident prior to race 8.

EXTERMINATE was held up for clear running until the 100 metres.

AIR TIME and FORTYEIGHTHENSON both had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

Post-race swab samples were taken from FRANCO LANDRY NZ.
