AINTNOBETTOR (A Turnbull) made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader leaving the 1400 metres.

SWAGGIE SHANNON (A Rees) was held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner ABOUT THE ATTITUDE.

RACE 2 – NIC DEWAR MEMORIAL HEAT – 2100 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from SPELL BINDING.

GABBYS SPORTSTAR (J McPherson) raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1800 metres.

TIGES APPRENTICE (M McLaughlin) broke gait free of interference leaving the 2000 metres, for which a warning was issued.

SPELL BINDING (M Eriksson) raced three wide from the start from its second row draw until working forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 1600 metres.

ABITMOREBLISS (B Chisholm) made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader near the 1400 metres. ABITMOREBLISS then continued to work forward to take over the lead from LENAS ART (A Turnbull) near the 1200 metres.

TIGES APPRENTICE was checked and broke gait approaching the 1200 metres from the back of SLICK SUE (M Frost) which was inconvenienced when the pace eased at that point.

It was noted that SPELL BINDING tired over the concluding stages of the race.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner ABITMOREBLISS.

RACE 3 – TAB CLUB MENANGLE COUNTRY SERIES HEAT – 1720 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from RUBIES FOR TASH.

Trainer D Picker was fined $50 under Rule 210 for not declaring a Driver for HERBS HERO by the required time.

MAXIMUS RED (M Turnbull) raced three wide from the start from its second row draw until working forward to obtain the position outside the leader leaving the 1400 metres.

MAXIMUS RED had a tendency to over-race during the middle stages of the event.

MISS GOLD FORTUNE NZ (J Seary) was unable to obtain a clear run in the home straight.

Driver M Turnbull reported that MAXIMUS RED was contacting its own sulky wheel with its hind leg when rounding the turns at various stages throughout the race. A post-race Veterinary examination of MAXIMUS RED, which tired over the concluding stages and was beaten by a considerable margin, revealed the gelding to be suffering from the thumps. Stewards advised connections, acting under Veterinary advice that MAXIMUS RED would be stood down from racing for a period of 10 days.

RACE 4 – NIC DEWAR MEMORIAL HEAT – 1720 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from SWORD AND SHIELD.

BABYITSCOLD (M Frost), which had shown gait speed to lead, broke gait free of interference entering the first turn, given the mare’s record connections were advised that it would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial, as a result ICHIBA NEWY (J Seary) was checked and broke, LETTUCE PRAY (C Rauchenberger), FASTESTGIRLINTOWN (J McPherson) and ROSEUPONHER (A Turnbull) were inconvenienced and BLACK DERBY (M Eriksson) was able to take over the lead.

Driver T French was issued with a reprimand under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that near the 200 metres, after being held up rounding the home turn, she allowed SWORD AND SHIELD to shift out and contact the sulky wheel of ROSEUPONHER, and it has blundered as a result.

FASTESTGIRLINTOWN was unable to obtain a clear run in the home straight.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today on BABYITSCOLD, in particular his decision to shift out and challenge BLACK DERBY for the lead leaving the 1200 metres after the mare had broken gait and settled back into a pace behind the leader, Driver M Frost stated that he had been instructed to drive her like she was the best horse in the race and endeavour to lead throughout. He added that after BABYITSCOLD had broken gait he did not feel they had lost any significant ground and felt approaching the 1200 metres, BLACK DERBY had eased the pace and he believed that it would surrender the lead to his runner. He added that his mare did not handle the turns so he only maintained his position outside the leader rounding the turn leaving the 1200 metres, and then when approaching the turn leaving the 800 metres when he couldn’t quite get past BLACK DERBY he took hold again, as he was concerned the mare may break gait again rounding that turn.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner TWENTYEIGHTBLACK.

RACE 5 – NATE NICHOLAS WILMOT PACE – 1720 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from IZZY WATT.

SABRAGE NZ (S Turnbull) broke gait during the score-up and was out of position at the start, for which a warning was issued.

SKIRMISH NZ (M Barnes) broke gait free of interference leaving the 1600 metres, for which a warning was issued.

MISTERFREEZE (M Rue) which had shown gate speed, raced outside the leader for the majority of the event.

IZZY WATT (T Pay) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner SMACK DAB SHANNON.

RACE 6 – CLUB MENANGLE WHERE HORSES FLY HEAT – 1720 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from BEST BEAU.

ROCK BOTTOM NZ (J Turnbull), which had shown gate speed, raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

BEST BEAU (J Beeby), which had shown gate speed, raced four wide rounding the first turn and then three wide before obtaining a position with cover in the running line near the 1000 metres.

IDEAL FANTASY (T White) had a tendency to over-race during the middle stages of the event.

LADY ZARAS HOME (J Morris), which had broken its near side hopple connecting strap shortly after the start, broke gait near the 1000 metres. The hopples were inspected following the race and found to be in a condition that they would be expected to cope with the stresses of racing.

Driver F O’Sullivan was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that leaving the 50 metres he shifted MAJADORE NZ out when not clear of IDEAL FANTASY which was checked and raced roughly.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner YOUNG CAMBO.

RACE 7 – KRIDEN PARK PACE – 2100 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from FRANCISCO DE GORE.

COBBITY CHIC (D Hewitt) raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1400 metres.

FREDDY FUNK NZ (N Turnbull) made a three wide mid race move to take over the lead from KYALLA STUART (M Parsons) near the 1000 metres.

ANODOUBT (B Micallef) hung-out leaving the 600 metres, for which a warning was issued, as a result FRANCISCO DE GORE (F O’Sullivan) was taken wider and KAMWOOD IZZY (J Brown), which was shifting out in an endeavour to improve, contacted its sulky wheel and raced roughly.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner FREDDY FUNK NZ.

RACE 8 – THANK YOU SHEPPARTON HRC FOR YOUR SUPPORT PACE – 2100 metres

SUNOFASIS (M Johnson) raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1600 metres.

ELEGANT ABBY (R Lemon) over-raced during the early stages of the event.

BUSTLING BARNEY (J Turnbull) made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

ELEGANT ABBY hung-in and contacted marker pegs leaving the 400 metres and tired over the concluding stages of the race. When questioned regarding the performance of the mare, Trainer/Driver R Lemon stated she resented being restrained from the start and commenced to over-race. He added that due to her over-racing he had difficulty pulling the mare’s shortener pins and when attempting to do this with his foot accidently kicked the mare’s tail tie off the sulky and she raced greenly at various stages throughout the race as a result. Given the circumstances, connections were advised that ELEGANT ABBY would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.

DOT AYOU (N Turnbull) was held up momentarily near the 200 metres.

SCARROLLER (L Primmer) broke gait free of interference near the 100 metres, given the mare’s record connections were advised that it would be stood down from racing for a period of 14 days and would be required to perform 2 re-qualifying trials.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today on DOT AYOU, in particular his decision to remain on the marker pegs near the 400 metres when there appeared to be an opportunity to shift out to obtain clear running at that point, Trainer/Driver N Turnbull stated that he would have had to restrain at that point to clear the wheel of SUNOFASIS to be able to shift out. He added that DOT AYOU is not overly strong, and given the field it was racing against tonight, he felt it would be better suited saving ground rounding the turn. He further added that approaching the 200 metres, he commenced to shift out wider, however, SUNOFASIS commenced to shift wider and then MINI MAJOR (M Hawke) also commenced to shift out, taking SUNOFASIS wider, so he elected to direct his runner back towards the peg line, as he then would have had to shift out to a four wide position to obtain clear running. N Turnbull further added that DOT AYOU had plenty of room in the home straight but was unable to make any ground on the runners ahead of it.

SCARROLLER will be placed back in the draw for future mobile start races.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner BUSTLING BARNEY.

RACE 9 – HRNSW GUARANTEED 3YO FILLIES PACE – 1720 metres

Pre-race swab samples were taken from WESTERN BELLE.

NAVUA GIRL (S Turnbull) and CASUARINA BELMER (A Turnbull) both broke gait free of interference leaving the 1600 metres, for which a warning’s were issued.

ROCKNROLL AVA (M Turnbull) raced three wide from the start from its second row draw until working forward to obtain the position outside the leader leaving the 1400 metres.

Driver B Jones was given the opportunity to make comment regarding the below market expectations performance of HIGHLAND MAJOR. He stated that the filly travelled comfortably during the early and middle stages of the race, however leaving the 400 metres she hung-in and lost momentum when he had to straighten her. He added that HIGHLAD MAJOR got going again a short distance later and maintained its position over the concluding stages and he was not too disappointed with its effort.
