GENERAL

The following drivers were all subject to breath testing and returned negative results. 

Mat Rue, John O’Shea, Sam Hewitt, Malcolm Hutchings, Douglas Hewitt, Bernie Hewitt, Amy Rees, Daniel Jack, David Hewitt.

Prior to Race 1, the mobile barrier was tested and passed safe for racing.

The following trainers were fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have gear forms accurately recorded for the following runners;

Race 3 – K Turner – Rule 273(6)(b) EYE CAN RUN

The following trainers were issued reprimands under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have gear forms accurately recorded for the following runners;

Race 3 – B Portelli - Rule 273(6)(b)  DEANTANA

Race 4 – M Hutchings - Rule 273(6)(b) CARIBBEAN PAT

Race 4 – M Teuma – Rule 273(6)(b) LA BOMBA

RACE 1 – HONOUREE STAKES HEAT 1 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from CARRAMAR TIMES UP and MO CASINO NZ.

MULTI SCORE (barrier 2) hung out during the later stages of the score up.

Entering the first turn, MULTI SCORE paced roughly for a short distance.

TULHURST SANTANNA improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1400 metres.

LOVE MY SISTER improved three wide passing the 1200 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1000 metres.

A post-race veterinarian examination of MULTI SCORE which weakened over the final 500 metres to finish in 9th position, beaten 72 metres, revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils. Acting under Rule 101(3)(a), MULTI SCORE will now be stood down from racing for a period of 3 Months, until a certificate of fitness of submitted in addition to one requalifying trial.

CARRAMAR TIMES UP was checked and lost ground between the 500 and approaching the 350 metres when position behind the weakening MULTI SCORE.

RACE 2 – HONOUREE STAKES HEAT 2 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from GRACIE TALJUICE, APHORISM and SNOOP STRIDE.

GRACIE TALJUICE was presented on course 4 hours prior to the advertised starting time for Race 2 as the horse is currently subject to the Elevated TC02 policy.

SNOOP STRIDE was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the running of Race 2 as the gelding has competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

ABERCROMBIE TAB was restrained during the early stages and rounding the first turn before obtaining cover at the rear of the field.

PASSIONS DELIGHT improved three wide near the 1250 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1050 metres.

ABERCROMBIE TAB raced keenly throughout the event.

Passing the winning post with a lap remaining, ISLAND BANNER hung out and raced with its head on the side racing down the back straight.

Post-race swab samples were taken from ISLAND BANNER.

RACE 3 – GEMS ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT GOLD TIARA HEAT 1 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from ANGEL SHARK and JO DINA.

Driver J Alchin (OUR ULTIMATE HANNA) (barrier 7) was cautioned regarding his starting position.

FEELGOOD SHINE (barrier 3) was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn, DANCING ON MONEY (barrier 1) commenced to pace roughly before breaking stride. As a result, DEANTANA was inconvenienced. In view of the filly’s racing record, DANCING ON MONEY will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

OUR ULTIMATE HANNA improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1350 metres.  

Driver B Portelli (DEANTANA) was cautioned regarding his whip use in the home straight in particular his use when out of contention.

Post-race swab samples were taken from EYE CAN RUN.

RACE 4 – JOHN TOBIN GOLD TIARA HEAT 2 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from MISDEMEANOR and HEIDI BOOM.

CARIBBEAN PAT (barrier 4) was out of positon at the start. In view of the filly’s racing record, a warning was issued.

Rounding the first turn, MISDEMEANOR paced roughly, hung out and was reluctant to move down towards a marker pegs position. Driver/Trainer S Hewitt indicated that he would look to make gear adjustments.  

JOES JOY raced keenly during the middle stages.

Approaching the 300 metres, VOODOO LOU became unbalanced and galloped. As a result, OLIVIA SHANNON was checked and taken wider. Driver/Trainer B Hewitt stated that his filly did not appear to handle the track conditions. In view of the filly’s racing record, VOODOO LOU will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

Post-race swab samples were taken from HAPPY CRUISING.

RACE 5 – A.OK FABRICATION GOLD TIARA HEAT 3 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from CHRISTIANO ROSE and CUT FROM ROCK.

AALESUND (barrier 8) was out of position at the start. Driver R Morris was issued a reprimand under Rule 162(1)(j) for failing to make sufficient effort to maintain his position by the starting point.

Approaching the first turn, CHRISTIANO ROSE became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the filly’s racing history, CHRISTIANO ROSE will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. It was further noted that the filly galloped excessively and took no competitive part in the event.

CUT FROM ROCK improved three wide near the 1300 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

A post-race veterinarian examination of CUT FROM ROCK which commenced to weaken from the 400 metres to finish in 8th position, beaten 61 metres, failed to reveal any abnormalities. Driver B Barnes explained that his filly choked down in the run which was the reason that he elected to improve in the early stages. Mr Barnes added that when obtaining the position outside the leader his filly failed to settle and failed to respond to his driving from the 600 metres. In view of the performance, CUT FROM ROCK will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial. 

AALESUND was held for clear running in the early stages and over the final 50 metres.

Post-race swab samples were taken from YORK MINSTER.

RACE 6 – LION NATHAN GOLD TIARA HEAT 4 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from ROLL ON THE BEACH and ELITE BELMER.

MISS LAMARR (barrier 3) was out of position at the start. Driver D Jack was issued a reprimand under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to make sufficient effort to come up into position by the starting point.

ROLL ON THE BEACH (barrier 6) galloped out at the start. In view of the filly’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Rounding the first turn, GEE GEE BLINXS paced roughly for a short distance.

Near the 1350 metres, YARRAMAN FRANCO was checked and paced roughly when improving ono the back and to the inside of KATALYTIC when that runner shifted back in after following GEE GEE BLINXS up the track slightly.

Passing the 1200 metres, KATALYTIC paced roughly resulting in YARRAMAN FRANCO being taken wider when positioned two horses back.

YARRAMAN FRANCO weakened over the final 500 metres.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MICHELLE LEE MAC.

RACE 7 – HONOUREE STAKES HEAT 3 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from SCARLET BABE and YOU NINETY TWO.

ASTA LEUGO was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the running of Race 7 as the horse has not competed in the previous 12 months. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

SCARLET BABE (barrier 2) galloped out at the start before veering out and coming together with FLASH IN SAM which was checked. In view of the mare’s recent offence history, SCARLET BABE will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

SAMS EXPRESS improved three wide near the 1350 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

REMEMBER MAC raced keenly throughout the event.

YOU NINETY TWO was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight and paced roughly when improving onto the back of ASTA LEUGO before obtaining clear running near the 100 metres. Trainer/Driver A Turnbull explained that rounding the final turn whilst trailing SWITCHEM ALL IN, she was looking to come wider however her drive was hanging in and reluctant to come up the track. Ms Turnbull added that her horse showed more promise in tonight’s event when trailing runners and she would look to continue to drive the horse with cover in future. Her comments were noted. 

Driver J O’Shea (SAMS EXPRESS) was cautioned regarding his whip use in the home straight.

Post-race swab samples were taken from PETES SAID SO NZ.

RACE 8 – HONOUREE STAKES HEAT 4 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from ARMA AUGUSTUS NZ, FERDINAND and ART SERIES.

The all-clear was delayed to allow Stewards an opportunity to review the home straight in particular SI SI SENOR NZ shifting slightly wider towards the running of PEMBROOKS PASSION NZ. On review Stewards were satisfied with the events and ordered the all-clear to be given on the judge’s numbers 5-7-9-6.

A false start was called when COWBOYS N INDIANS NZ (barrier 1) galloped during the score up and hampered ART SERIES. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Entering the first turn, COWBOYS N INDIANS NZ became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Near the 900 metres, COWBOYS N INDIANS NZ hung in and paced roughly for a short distance.

A post-race veterinarian examination of ARMA AUGUSTUS NZ which weakened over the final 800 metres to finish in 9th position, beaten 136 metres, revealed the gelding to be suffering from a poor post-race recovery. Driver W Rixon stated that his gelding was worked up following the false start which may have contributed into the disappointing performance. In view of the performance, ARMA AUGUSTUS NZ will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

A post-race veterinarian examination of COWBOYS N INDIANS NZ which finished in 8th position, beaten 61 metres, failed to reveal any abnormalities. Driver C McDowell explained that this was the gelding’s first run at Bathurst and was worked up in the run. Mr McDowll added that connections would look to restrict the horse to Menangle racing. Mr McDowell’s comments were noted.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT – YOUNG 16TH MARCH 2019

RACE 4 – SOUTHCON YOUNG OAKS – 2100 METRES

Driver N Xuereb (BELLA CLARE) was issued a reprimand under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving being that over the concluding stages when displaying a celebratory gesture, he has allowed his filly to shift wider.
