GENERAL

The following drivers were all subject to breath testing and returned negative results. 

James McPherson, Anthony Frisby, Bernie Hewitt, Emma Turnbull, Rickie Alchin, Will Rixon, Nathan Turnbull, Adam Francis, David Jack.

Following the running of Race 2, Stewards ordered an indefinite delay due to a large storm which consisted of close lightening activity. Following the storm passing, Stewards inspected the track which included the testing of the mobile barrier. Both were passed safe for racing. Due to the delay, Stewards ordered the following amendments to the race times;

Race 3 – 8:02pm

Race 4 – 8:17pm

Race 5 – 8:45pm

Race 6 – 9:15pm

Race 7 – 9:46pm

Race 8 – 10:14pm

Race 9 – 10:42pm

Race 10 – 11:00pm

RACE 1 – ROWLEYALLA SPRINT – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from SUPERBASS NZ and ROLLING WITH STEEL.

DOUBLE BLISS improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1300 metres.

SUPERBASS NZ improved three wide near the 1350 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

DAZZLE ME NZ improved three wide with cover from the 1350 metres until working forward to obtain the lead passing the 1000 metres.

MAKE MY MEMPHIS improved three wide with cover near the 1300 metres until obtaining the positon outside the leader near the 900 metres.

RACE 2 – APSLEY VIEW ESTATE GOLD CROWN HEAT 1 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from KATCHAR SHOOBEE and THE MUSTANG.

FOREVER YIN (barrier 1) galloped out at the start and checked the running of THE MUSTANG. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

FOREVER YIN improved three wide near the 1300 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1050 metres.

THE MUSTANG raced ungeneriously between the 1300 and 1200 metres.

Passing the 100 metres, MISTER FINNIGAN hung out and contacted the sulky of YEP GOT CHOOKS and broke gait for a short distance. In view of the colt’s recent record, a warning was issued. Trainer A Goadsby indicated that he will make adjustments to the colt’s racing gear.

MISTER FINNIGAN will now be re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MACH DAN.

RACE 3 – WATTS BUILD GOLD CROWN HEAT 2 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from PAT MCGARRY and DEEKAYS MAJOR.

Approval was granted for PAIDINFULL to race in Dolly Vardon blinkers.

The all-clear was delayed to allow Stewards an opportunity to review an incident near the 1200 metres where DEEKAYS MAJOR (B Jones) and PAIDINFULL (C Hart) came together resulting in both runners breaking gait at which point the warning siren was activated in error to the sounding of the bell. On review and after interviewing both drivers, Stewards determined that the incident was as a result of DEEKAYS MAJOR breaking gait and the warning siren did not influence the decisions of both drivers. As a result, Stewards ordered the all-clear be given on the judge’s numbers 8-9-6-4.

KRAFTY BART (barrier 1) broke gait after the start after displaying gate speed. As a result, SONNY WEAVER NZ was inconvenienced. In view of the colt’s racing history, KRAFTY BART will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Rounding the first turn, PIKARSO became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the gelding’s recent racing history, PIKARSO will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

DEEKAYS MAJOR became unbalanced and galloped on a second occasion near the 700 metres which checked the running of KRAFTY BART. In view of the gelding’s recent offence history, DEEKAYS MAJOR will now be given it last chance to race truly.

Driver M Muscat (LORD HESTON) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2) for applying his whip in more than a flicking motion and engaging his shoulder. Mr Muscat was fined $200 after considering his recent offence history. 

Driver R Alchin (CRUNCH TIME) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2) for applying his whip in more than a flicking motion and engaging his shoulder. Mr Alchin was fined $200 after considering his recent offence history. 

DEEKAYS MAJOR will now be re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

Post-race swab samples were taken from PAT MCGARRY.

RACE 4 – FIFTY8 GEORGE GOLD CROWN HEAT 3 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from GOTTA KICK and SUBSTITOOTH.

ROCKNROLL MONDO (barrier 7) hung in during the score up and was out of position at the start. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

SEND IT (barrier 8) was out of position at the start. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

STEELE (barrier 2) paced roughly after the start and broke gait. In view of the colt’s racing history, STEELE will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Near the 300 metres, STEELE became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the colt’s racing history, STEELE will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

Drivers M Muscat (MAGNIFICO TO WATCH) and R Alchin (BRUHAHA) were both cautioned regarding their whip use in the home straight. At the time of inquiry, both drivers were not addressed regarding the offence in Race 3 and therefore Stewards took no further action other than issuing a caution.

Post-race swab samples were taken from SMOOTH BAHT.

RACE 5 – SMOOTH SATIN PACING CUP – 2260 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from NED PEPPER and FOUROEIGHT.

COURTSINSESSION raced three wide for a short distance rounding the first turn before obtaining the position outside the leader.

FOUROEIGHT which was caught wide in the early stages was restrained to the rear of the field near the 1800 metres.

KARLOO DAMAJOR was caught wide during the early stages until being restrained to the rear of the field near the 1650 metres.

COURTSINSESSION raced keenly during the middle stage of the event.

LEFT TENNANT raced keenly during the middle stages of the event.

Driver B Barnes (ROCK WITH SAM) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving being that on approach to the home straight, ROCK WITH SAM was permitted to improve forward and contacted the sulky of JILLIBY BANDIT and broke gait. Mr Barnes had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence midnight, Saturday 30 March 2019 and to expire on Sunday 7 April 2019 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards took into consideration Mr Barnes’ guilty plea and driving record.

Driver M Rue (FOUROEIGHT) explained that he was disappointed in the run and although being positioned back in the field, he expected and better showing. Mr Rue indicated that he will now give the gelding a freshen up.

RACE 6 – DUDLEY HOTEL GOLD CROWN HEAT 4 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from JILLIBY NITRO and LETTUCEROLL.

A false start was called when BOMB SUIT NZ (barrier 1) broke gait which impeded JIMARTEE. On the second attempt, BOMB SUIT NZ galloped out and inconvenienced JIMARTEE. In view of the colt’s racing history, BOMB SUIT NZ will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

LETTUCEROLL (barrier 6) was out of position at the start. Driver J Seary was issued a reprimand under Rule 162(1)(j) for failing to make sufficient effort to maintain his position by the starting point.

ROCLEA STAR (barrier 8) was out of position at the start. Driver G Chapple was fined $50 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to make sufficient effort to come up into position by the starting point.

LORD BAZALUP weakened over the final 600 metres to finish in 9th position, beaten 85 metres. Driver/Trainer R Alchin was unable to offer any explanation other than the noting the class of the event. In view of the performance, LORD BAZALUP will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

Post-race swab samples were taken from JILLIBY NITRO.

RACE 7 – A.OK FABRICATONS GOLD CROWN HEAT 5 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from PERCY BAILEY and FIRE AND SWORD.

HASLER (barrier 9) broke gait during the score up and was out of position at the start. In view of the colt’s recent record, a warning was issued.

MAJOR BOB (barrier 3) galloped out at the start. In view of the gelding’s racing history, MAJOR BOB will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Near the 1300 metres, HARRY CROFT became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the gelding’s recent record, a warning was issued.

A post-race veterinarian examination of FIRE AND SWORD which weakened badly over the final 600 metres to finish in 8th position, beaten 149 metres, revealed the gelding to be suffering from a poor post-race recovery. Driver G McElhinney was unable to offer any explanation into the performance. In view of the performance, FIRE AND SWORD will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

PERCY BAILEY shifted ground over the concluding stages. The gelding will be given its last chance to race truly.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MAJOR BOB.

RACE 8 – JOHNSON TOWING SOCIAL CLUB GOLD CROWN HEAT 6 – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from MISTERY ROAD and FOCUS STRIDE.

MISTERY ROAD (barrier 5) galloped out at the start. In view of the colt’s recent offence history, a warning was issued.

JAY OK improved three wide until obtaining the positon outside the leader near the 1300 metres.

Passing the 1300 metres, LUCKY CRUZ hung in and contacted marker pegs.

FOCUS STRIDE improved three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader near the 1150 metres.

MYSTERY ROAD obtained cover during the early stages until working forward to obtain the lead near the 1000 metres.

TOPZAVSKI raced keenly during the early stages.

MYSTERY ROAD shifted ground over the concluding stages.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MISTERY ROAD.

RACE 9 – ALLIED EXPRESS / COBBITY EQUINE TROT IT OUT TROTTERS CUP – 2790 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from PRINCESS MILA and MAXIMISER.

SASSY PANTS NZ (FR Fr1) balked at the tape and galloped out at the start. The mare will be given its last chance in the standing start barrier draw.

MAXIMISER (FT Fr6) was slow to begin.

GOLD SOVEREIGN NZ (FR Fr7) broke gait shortly after the start. The gelding will continue to be excluded from the standing start barrier draw.

Near the 2300 metres, SPIRIT WALKER became unbalanced and galloped. In view of the mare’s recent record, a warning was issued.

Driver J Pace (ENJOY AN ALE) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that approaching the home straight, ENJOY AN ALE was taken wider which forced MAXIMISER out and placed that mare in restricted room to the inside of CASTLEREAGH NZ and was checked and lost its rightful running. Driver J Pace had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence midnight, Thursday 28 March 2019 and to expire on Friday 5 April 2019 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards took into consideration Mr Pace’s guilty plea and driving record.

Post-race swab samples were taken from CASTLEREAGH NZ.

RACE 10 – HARAS DES TROTTEURS GOLD CORONET – 1730 METRES

Pre-race blood samples were taken from MORETON BAY and EMERALD STRIDE.

Approaching the home straight and shortly after entering the home straight, EMERALD STRIDE hung in and trotted over a number of marker pegs. In view of the filly’s recent record, a warning was issued. Driver/Trainer D Miles advised Stewards that he intends to make gear adjustments.

Near the 100 metres, MORETON BAY converted gait into a pace for a short distance before being restrained into its correct gait. A warning was issued.

Post-race swab samples were taken from CALIGULA NZ.
