DEE LEWIS – Broke in the latter stages of the score up causing a false start.  The gelding will be given its last chance in the draw.  Surrendered the lead to LOCHIEL NZ at the 1750 metres . Driver N Turnbull was questioned on the overall performance of the gelding, after tiring from the 900 metres and was beaten a considerable distance.  Mr Turnbull stated after surrendering the lead in the early stages the gelding had a tendency to over race and believed passing the 900 metres where the horse was beginning to tire it was showing signs the gelding may have choked down as the gelding felt unsteady.  Mr Turnbull further stated that with his concerns on the horse he did not drive the horse out to the finish.  Mr Turnbull advised trainer D Davis that the horse may require some gear adjustment with the addition of a tongue tie in future.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  Connections were advised the gelding will have to perform one requalifying trial before resuming racing.

TULHURST WRITER – Checked when trailing DEE LEWIS at the 1800 metres until clearing that runner at the 1700 metres.  Driver A Hedges was advised to modify whip use to comply with the current Rules.

DONT TELL PHYLLIS – Checked when trailing GOOD DAY SUNSHINE NZ at the 600 metres when that runner raced roughly.

MOTU ZEST FOR LIFE NZ – Checked and broke in the latter stages of the score up by DEE LEWIS.

GOOD DAY SUNSHINE NZ – Pre-race blood samples collected.   Raced roughly for a short distance leaving the 600 metres.  Driver J Grimson was queried on the overall performance of the mare when racing below market expectation finishing in 8th place beaten 26 metres. J Grimson explained the mare was brushing its knee throughout the race, this being the cause of racing roughly at the 600 metres. Mr Grimson was of the opinion that the mare had not handled the track. His comments were noted.

NEGATIVE NANCY – Pre-race blood samples collected.  Surrendered the lead at the 1350 metres to BROADWAYBOOGIWOOGI.  Hampered at the 300 metres until obtaining clear running at the 200 metres.

RACE 8 – ST PATS RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB PACE – 1730 metres

MAC STUBBORN – Pre-race blood samples collected.  Driver M Turnbull was queried on his driving tactics adopted in particular the early stages and the overall performance.  Mr Turnbull stated from the good draw it was intention to lead. He had to do more work than expected to hold the lead and was surprised they were running a 26.8 first quarter. Mr Turnbull further added when FIREHOUSE was outside him at the1200 metres he didn’t want that runner to challenge for the lead and was of the belief his runner was travelling well despite the second quarter being 30.5.
