RACE 1 – TAB ODDS & EVENS PACE – 1609 metres

AUDACE – Post-race swab sample.

ROBBO – When questioned regarding the tactics employed on ROBBO Driver T Ison explained that he was open minded about the tactics he would employ during the early stages however ROBBO does not possess genuine gate speed therefore, when several runners around him began much quicker, he elected to steady at the start and found himself racing toward the rear of the field.  He added that when the tempo steadied in the second quarter, he gave thought to improving his position however IDEAL FANTASY moved forward of his runner which saw the tempo increase and therefore he remained racing toward the rear.  He added that when IDEAL FANTASY was caught three wide without cover, he elected to improve on to the back of that runner near the 800 metres however IDEAL FANTASY did not take him into the race and therefore he had to make a run four wide leaving the 600 metres.  T Ison stated that making the wide long run did not suit ROBBO and the gelding had a tendency to hang in a race roughly racing between the 400 metres and the 300 metres.  He added that leaving the 200 metres ROBBO felt more comfortable in its gait but the long sustained run had taken its toll and the gelding was unable to finish the race off as well as he hoped.  A post-race veterinary examination of ROBBO revealed no abnormalities.  T Ison’s explanation was noted.

JASPER STYLES – Pre-race blood sample.

IDEAL FANTASY – Improved three wide leaving the 1200 metres and remained racing three wide without cover for the remainder of the event.   The mare then tired over the concluding stages.  When questioned Driver C Judd explained that IDEAL FANTASY was racing down in grade and after the tempo settled in the second quarter, he felt that it was an opportunity to improve the mare’s position and he attempted to find the position outside the leader.  He added that no sooner did he improve towards the leaders, the tempo increased from the 1000 metres leaving him exposed three wide.  He added that it was now his intention to freshen the mare up prior to her next start.  Notwithstanding this, Stewards placed a warning on IDEAL FANTASY for what was deemed to be an unsatisfactory performance.

As such it would be his intention to freshen the mare up prior to her next start as it did appear that she did not appreciate racing with a quick back up at this stage.  R Roots Jnr’s comment was noted.

MY BLUE HEELER – Approaching the 1800 metres had to be checked away from WALLAROY BOY and in doing so struck the inside wheel of that runner.
