BLASTER RANGER – Raced three wide rounding the first turn before being restrained to obtain a position with cover in the running line near the 1800 metres. Made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader near the 800 metres. Hung-in while racing three wide when rounding the turn approaching the 1000 metres. Tired over the concluding stages and beaten by a considerable margin. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer/Driver M Harris, when questioned about the performance, stated the gelding travelled reasonably well in the early stages of the race but when he asked it to improve three wide from near the 1400 metres he had difficulty in getting it to quicken. He added that it can be a bit temperamental and while it had raced on smaller tracks in the past similar to tonight’s track, he felt it might not have handled it after racing recently on the bigger track at Wagga. Connections were advised the gelding would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.

SELAPHOBIA – Made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader leaving the 1000 metres. Commenced to lose ground leaving the 600 metres. Driver J Painting was questioned about the performance, he stated that the mare had only been with the stable for its past three starts and they were still working out the most favourable way to drive it. He added that at its last start it had been able to lead easily and was able to win in a relatively slow time without being pressured, whereas tonight, from the second row draw, he had to ask her to work harder than he would have liked mid-race to obtain the position outside the leader. He further added that in future in similar class races from similar draws he would be endeavouring to drive her in a more conservative manner in the early and middle stages. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to have an elevated temperature. Stewards acting on Veterinary advice advised connections that she would be stood down from racing for a period of 7 days.

KHAWAJA – Raced three wide from near the 1400 metres, with a trail behind SELAPHOBIA when that runner shifted out ahead of it approaching the 1200 metres, until being restrained to obtain a position with cover at the rear of the field in the running line near the 800 metres.
