RACE 1 – TAB ODDS & EVENS PACE – 1609 metres

 

WATCHFUL LADY – Post-race sample was taken.

BRIE – Had a tendency to race roughly shortly after the start was affected and when the negotiating the first turn then broke stride.  A warning was issued.  Racing into the back straight on the first occasion when regaining contact with the field raced up onto the back of the field and was hampered and broke stride for a short distance. 

PURE LAUGHTER – Checked as the field negotiated the first turn.

POWER TO BOLT – Checked as the field negotiated the first turn.

CRONIN – Hampered as the field negotiated the first turn.  Driver M Simon was fined the sum of $200 under Rule 156(2)(a) in that when applying the whip to CRONIN over the concluding stages did so in an unapproved manner.

FANTASY MONEY – Pre-race sample was taken.  Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  A warning was issued.

ROCLEA STAR – Checked as the field negotiated the first turn.

 

RACE 2 – PUB GROUP GOLD NUGGET SUNDAY 10 JAN PACE – 1980 metres

 

GENERAL – Prior to the declaration of all clear, Stewards gave consideration to a protest which was lodged by driver B Elder (SIR RICHARD LEE), third past the post, alleging interference from ROCKNROLL TONY (T Ison) which was second in the event racing down the back straight on the final occasion.  Stewards acknowledged that SIR RICHARD LEE had been interfered with racing down the back straight on the final occasion, however, could not be satisfied that if that had not occurred that SIR RICHARD LEE would have finished in advance of ROCKNROLL TONY therefore the protest was dismissed.

 

ROCKNROLL TONY – Raced roughly as the field negotiated the first turn.  Driver T Ison pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when racing down the back straight on the final occasion permitted his runner to shift wider on the track without the required clearance over SIR RICHARD LEE resulting in that runner being checked and raced roughly for a short distance.  Driver T Ison’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 10 days. 

GOODTIME HERO – Pre-race sample was taken. 

RORY MCLORY – Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed it to have bled from both nostrils.  As it was its first bleed connections were advised that it would be stood down for a period of three months in addition to a requalifying trial prior to racing accompanied with a veterinary certificate of fitness.

PENNY A PACKET – Broke stride as the field negotiated the first turn.  A warning was issued.

MARNI WHITE – Post-race sample was taken.

SIR RICHARD LEE – Checked and raced roughly as the field raced down the back straight on the final occasion.

 

RACE 3 – LOUNGES PLUS EPIC CHRISTMAS SALE PACE – 1609 metres

 

ONAHI DELIGHT – Stewards queried trainer A Missen in relation to the somewhat improved performance of the ONAHI DELIGHT.  Trainer A Missen explained that he was of the opinion that the gelding raced best when fresh, given it was first up from a spell and had been working well and was confident going into the event.  Stewards advised A Missen that Stewards would expect ONAHI DELIGHT to race in a consistent manner.  Post-race sample was taken.

HIGH STAKES – Broke stride as the field negotiated the first turn.  Connections were advised that it will be stood down until it can complete one requalifying trial.

AMUSED – Stewards queried driver R Williams in relation to the somewhat disappointing performance.  R Williams explained to Stewards that he was not overly disappointed in the performance in the event as he was never able to get into the race from the position of which he was racing.  Stewards noted his comments. 

ROLAMAX – Pre-race sample was taken. 

CAPITAL CULLECT – Driver C Shepherdson was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(iii) in that when approaching the first turn he closed down the track and restricted the racing room of IM SO BETTER which was hampered.

IM SO BETTER – Restricted for racing room entering the first turn and was hampered when to the inside of CAPITAL CULLECT.  Stewards queried trainer A Missen in relation to the somewhat disappointing performance of IM SO BETTER.  Trainer A Missen explained that he was somewhat disappointing in the performance however, the mare races are tough on a consistent basis and may look to give it a freshen up.  Trainer A Missen was advised that if anything was amiss in days subsequent was to notify the Stewards.

 

RACE 4 – HYGAIN RELEASE PACE – 1980 metres

 

SHADOW DEALER – Driver A Missen was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(b)(i) in that when leaving the 800 metres looked to shift wider on the track however did so without the required clearance over NEVILLE SHANNON which was hampered and forced wide momentarily at that point.  In not taking more severe action, Stewards acknowledged that A Missen immediately re-dressed this position and moved back to the running line.  Checked when trailing BASSEY which had commenced to weaken over the concluding stages.

DELILAAH NZ – Post-race sample was taken.

TRALEE ROCKS – Had a tendency to over race whilst leading the event.

BASSEY – Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities.  Driver S Ison could not offer any suitable explanation for the performance.  Connections were advised that it would be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

MONTANA NIGHTS – Pre-race sample was taken.  Broke stride as the field negotiated the final turn.  A warning was issued.

NEVILLE SHANNON – Hampered leaving the 800 metres and forced to a four wide position momentarily.

 

RACE 5 – BENEFICIAL SFAETY TRAINING PACE – 1609 meters

 

MOTU ZEST FOR LIFE NZ – Checked when trailing IGOTCHA which compounded over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  Racing down the back straight on the final occasion sustained a contact to its near side wheel resulting in a puncture.  Shortly thereafter locked wheels with IGOTCHA and was further checked.

MONEY MATTERS – Post-race sample was taken.

IGOTCHA – Weakened over the final 800 metres to be beaten a considerable distance.  A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities.  Locked wheels racing down the back straight on the final occasion and broke stride momentarily.  Connections were advised that the gelding would now be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

TALL TALE – Pre-race sample was taken.

STILTON – Out of position as the start was affected despite the best efforts from its driver.  A warning was issued.

LOUTHPARK XSRESSO – Checked racing down the back straight when trailing weakening runners.

 

RACE 6 – PETER JACKSON BOOKMAKER PACE – 1980 metres

 

RUBY BABY NZ – Post-race sample was taken.

CHILDERS ROAD – Fractious in the early stages of the score up and was out of position as the start was affected.  A warning was issued.

WOTNOW SWANEE – Pre-race sample was taken.  Weakened over the concluding stages.  A warning was issued.

KARAOKE ROCK – Weakened over the concluding stages.  A warning was issued.

ALOT OF COST - Weakened over the concluding stages.  A warning was issued

HEAVENLY SONG – Upon request from connections approval was given for the mare to be re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 7 – HYDES HIDES BY M&M MAIDEN PACE – 1980 metres

 

KENNY WHAT – Contacted the barrier arm in the latter stages of the score up and was out of position as the start was affected.

NONCHALANT – Examined post-race by the veterinarian which revealed it to be somewhat distressed post-race and showing some signs of colic.  Upon recommendation connections were advised that the filly would be stood down from racing for a period of 10 days.

BURRABADINE BLUE – Pre-race sample was taken.  Over raced severely whilst leading the event then compounded over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  Driver T Ison could not offer any suitable explanation for the performance.  Connections were advised that it would be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

SWIFT SCORPION – Broke stride in the early stages of the score up and veered up the track hampering the running of UNCLE GREGORY and FREDDIES DELIGHT.  As a result SWIFT SCORPION was out of position as the start was affected.  A warning was issued.  As the field approached the 1300 metres broke stride free of interference.  A warning was issued.  Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  Connections were advised that SWIFT SCORPION would now be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

KILLARA INSANITY – Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  Driver C Shepherdson advised that the gelding was somewhat difficult to drive throughout the race whilst it had a tendency to hang.  Connections were advised that it would be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

UNCLE GREGORY – Hampered in the early stages of the score up.

FREDDIES DELIGHT – Hampered in the early stages of the score up.  Post-race sample was taken.

 

RACE 8 – CARNIVAL OF CUPS SUNDAY 24 JAN PACE – 1609 metres

 

ROLL WITH ANNIE – Post-race sample was taken.

WHEREYAGOINBABE – Weakened over the final 500 metres to be beaten some distance.

TABRA – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages of the score up before galloping result in being out of position as the start was affected.  A warning was issued.

TRALEE CHIC – Checked as the field was rounding the final turn when trailing WHEREYAGOINBABE which was weakening at that point.

JOHNROD – Pre-race sample was taken.  Out of position as the start was affected despite the best efforts from its driver.  A warning was issued.
