RACE 1 – GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND PACE – 1609 metres

BURNHAM BOY – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

MOREAU DRIVE – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Driver L McCarthy was questioned regarding the tactics employed on MOREAU DRIVE.  Of particular concern was his decision to remain racing on the back of ZEUSS BROMAC NZ leaving the 300 metres until approaching the 200 metres.  L McCarthy explained that approaching the 300 metres he had to restrain MOREAU DRIVE from the back of BURNHAM BOY to get back and around ZEUSS BROMAC NZ in doing so MOREAU DRIVE lost momentum and was reluctant to pick up and race on the bit.  He added that leaving the 200 metres he applied the whip to MOREAU DRIVE and it took some effort to get the mare to respond.  When he believed that MOREAU DRIVE was responding to his driving he shifted out across the back of ZEUSS BROMAC NZ into clear running however at this point both ZEUSS BROMAC NZ and BURNHAM BOY increased the tempo significantly and he lost 2-3 metres.  L McCarthy stated that when MOREAU DRIVE was driven with significant vigour the mare started to respond and made good ground and hit the line well.  L McCarthy’s explanation was noted however he was advised to ensure that he always presents his runners into clear running at the earliest opportunity so as to not leave himself open to question.

MO CASINO NZ – Had difficulty securing clear running in the latter stages of the home straight and was not fully tested.

AIR TIME – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Unable to secure clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

RACE 2 – RCS PRODUCTS PACE – 1609 metres

BENALONG VALLEY – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

MAFUTA VAUTIN – Unable to secure clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

ALWAYS ROCKIN – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

MOTU GATECRASHER NZ – Passing the 100 metres was able to obtain an inside run when MAKOA shifted out slightly.  Post-race swab samples were obtained.

MAKOA – Shifted out slightly in the home straight under vigorous driving.  Driver J Trainor plead guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) for applying his whip to MAKOA in more than a wrist only flicking motion over the final 250 metres.  In assessing penalty Stewards determined that it was J Trainor’s fourth offence under revised whip rules and as such J Trainor was fined the sum of $1000.

RACE 3 – RESOLV SOFT BAIT PACE – 1609 metres

PIRATE BAY NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

LANI KAI BEACH – Unable to secure clear running until approaching the 100 metres.  When questioned regarding the tactics employed on LANI KAI BEACH from the 400 metres driver C Hart explained that shortly after passing the 300 metres he believed there was insufficient room to attempt to take a run to the inside of PIRATE BAY NZ which was leading. Therefore, he commenced to shift away from the marker pegs and attempted to take an opportunity to move TEAM OF STARZZZ wider on the track however that runner resisted his movement. Despite this he continued to attempt to shift out but ISLAND BANNER improved quickly to the outside of TEAM OF STARZZZ. C Hart stated that as a result of this LANI KAI BEACH was disappointed for a run subsequently he shifted back down quickly toward the marker pegs to obtain, what had developed into a full run, to the inside of PIRATE BAY NZ approaching the 100 metres.  C Hart’s explanation was noted.

MOST HAPPY CULLEN – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

ISLAND BANNER – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

RACE 4 – ADVION PRODUCTS PACE – 2300 metres

ROCKIN MARTY – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Post-race swab samples were obtained.

FEAR CRUISIN NZ – It was noted post-race that FEAR CRUISIN NZ broke its number three hopple carrying strap.  The gear was inspected and found to be of reasonable quality.

NEARIS GREEN NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

RACE 5 – SUSPEND FLEXX PACE – 1609 metres

HIDDEN COURAGE – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

SHORTYS MATE NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Unable to secure clear running until passing the 100 metres.

DON BOSTON – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

OUR WALL STREET WOLF NZ – When questioned regard the tactics employed on OUR WALL STREET WOLF NZ driver L McCarthy explained that he settled back in the field as per its most recent start however when DON BOSTON led and was driven along at a fast tempo FRANCISCO DE GORE was unable to maintain the back of HIDDEN COURAGE resulting with the main body of the field losing contact with HIDDEN COURAGE and subsequently DON BOSTON.  He added that he did not want to make his run on OUR WALL STREET WOLF NZ any earlier than necessary but after approaching the 800 metres DANCE FOR GLORY came up quickly to his outside therefore he trailed that runner until leaving the 500 metres. L McCarthy added that he then shifted three wide but given the manner in which the race was run it made it difficult for OUR WALL STREET WOLF NZ to make up ground and get into the race.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed OUR WALL STREET WOLF NZ to be slightly lame in the near hind leg.  Adopting the veterinary recommendations OUR WALL STREET WOLF NZ was stood down from racing until a veterinary certificate of fitness is submitted.
