RACE 1 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 16009 metres

WITH AUTHORITY – Stewards questioned driver T Ison in relation to the tactics adopted and overall performance of the gelding. T Ison explained that it was the intentions to drive forward in the event.  He added that after doing some work in the early stages was able to find the lead position to which the gelding commenced to over race and over the concluding stages weakened out of the event.  Driver T Ison explained to Stewards that it would be the intention for connections to alter some gear.  A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities.  Stewards noted his comments.

GROSESTAR – Pre-race sample was taken.

POPS BOY – Post-race sample was taken.

REGAL ROCK NZ – Galloped away as the start was affected.  A warning was issued.  Racing into the home straight on the first occasion when tacking back onto the field raced up onto the wheel of VILLAREAL and broke stride for a short distance.  No action was taken due to the tempo in the event slackening at that point.

RACE 2 – COCA COLA PACE – 1609 metres

STYX VIXEN NZ – Checked and race roughly when negotiating the first turn.  Inside the 100 metres raced up onto the wheel of TOUCHE NZ

OUR CHANCE TODREAM – Pre-race sample was taken.

MISS VERSTAPPEN NZ – Galloped away as the start was affected.  Connections were advised that it would be placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

TOUCHE NZ – Driver J Osborn pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when entering the first turn closed down the track then checked the running of STYX VIXEN NZ which raced roughly for a short distance.  Driver J Osborn’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 10 days.  When considering penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and driving record in relation to interference.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

YESNOMAYBESO – Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages.

ROLLING WITH STELL – Post-race sample was taken.

RACE 3 – NEWCASTE TRANSPORT SPECIALISTS PACE – 2030 metres

MASTER CATCH – Pre-race sample was taken.

MISTER BRAZIL – Post-race sample was taken.

RACE 4 – DFK CROSBIE PACE – 2030 metres

DAYS END – Pre-race sample was taken.  Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.  Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  Driver B Hughes explained that it travelled well up until the 1000 metres and was under pressure and was disappointing over the concluding stages.  A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any significant abnormalities.  Connections were advised that hit would be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.

MAJOR BOB – Racing down the back straight on the final occasion driver G Panella attempted to shift wider and engaged in a jostle for a short distance with THE CHOREOGRAPHER which did resist this movement.  As a result both runners broke stride.  Both drivers G Panella and M Chapple were advised to take greater care in similar circumstances.  Post-race sample was taken.

RACE 9 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE – 2030 metres

CRUISEN ON BYE – Commenced to weaken as the field left the back straight on the final occasion then hung in losing ground which checked the running of TAKEME TOTHE BEACH (G Bull) which in turn severely checked MYSTIC EAGLE (B Hughes) which fell as a result.  Connections were advised that given its recent record and the consequential effect of its tractability that it would be stood down for one requalifying trial.
