RACE 1 – GLEN MIA ACT SADDLERY TROTTERS MOBILE – 1710 metres

ALLEYES - Cast its near fore plate in the warm up and as such had to leave the track in order to be re-plated, as a result there was a short delay to the beginning of race 1. Galloped out as the start was effected and took no competitive part in the event. In view of the mare’s recent record, connections were advised that ALLEYES would be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

ITSARAPT – Passing the 500 meters commenced to weaken over the concluding stages of the event to be beaten 63.6 meters. Rounding the final turn, the gelding had a tendency to hang in. A post-race veterinary exam revealed the gelding to be moderately lame in the off hind leg. Acting on veterinary advice ITSARAPT was stood down pending a veterinary certificate of fitness.

OURSURFINSAFARI- Inconvenienced after the start and was momentarily tightened, as a result of RED TRIX hanging out. Stewards queried driver P Shipley in relation to the tactics adopted during the event, in particular from a point passing the 500 metres where he remained behind the tiring GRAYSON rather than shifting wider to obtain clear running. Mr Shipley stated that GRAYSON had a tendency to shift up the track leaving the back straight on the final occasion and that he believed a run would eventuate to the inside of GRAYSON for his runner to progress into, Mr Shipley further explained that the momentum, he would have lost by checking his runner off GRAYSON at that stage in the race would have had no benefit to OURSURFINSAFARI placing differently in the finish. Stewards noted his comments. Driver P. Shipley pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving, in that, when passing the 300 metres he had allowed his runner to progress to the inside of GRAYSON, where there was insufficient racing room to do so, causing OURSURFINSAFARI to contact the near side sulky wheel of GRAYSON and was subsequently checked and broke gait. After considering Mr Shipley’s driving record along with his guilty plea, his license to drive in races was suspended for a period of 7 days commencing midnight 09/01/22. Driver Mr P. Shipley was also cautioned in relation to his conduct, for comments made when OURSURFINSAFARI broke stride.

ELLAS REASON - Upon request from connections and in view of the mare’s recent record, ELLAS REASON was re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

GRAYSON – Pre-race blood sample. Passing the 600 meters commenced to weaken over the concluding stages to be beaten 99.9 meters. Stewards questioned driver Mr H. James in relation to the performance to which he stated that, he was content with the position that GRAYSON found in the running line and he would have expected his runner to have had something to offer over the concluding stages. Mr James further added that the gelding may not have appreciated racing four weeks consecutively and may look to freshen GRAYSON prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary exam could not reveal any abnormalities. After considering the gelding’s recent racing record, GRAYSON was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.

RACE 3 – BENSTUD STANDARDBREDS NSW PACE – 1710 metres
