Race 6 – 5.37pm

Race 7 – 6.05pm

Race 8 – 6.35pm

RACE 1 – HES WATCHING @ TIPPERARY EQUINE – 1740 metres

CARIBBEAN PRINCESS – Pre-race blood sample.  A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the mare not having competed in the previous 12 months.  No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.  Post-race swab sample.

TICKETTOTHEDANCE – Improved three wide from the 1350 metres until obtaining the position passing the 1200 metres.

RACE 2 – STEEL SUPPLIES PACE – 1740 metres

SPORTING ROBYN NZ – Stewards questioned driver J Painting in relation to the performance of the mare when being beaten a short half head ($1.33 fav).  Mr Painting explained that throughout the event the mare had a tendency to hang out and was quite significant in the home straight which proved detrimental over the concluding stages. Mr Painting added that it was the first start for trainer D Kennedy however during track work the mare had a tendency to hang in so it was uncharacteristic when hanging out in today’s event.  Mr Painting explained that he had recommended to trainer D Kennedy that he modify the mare’s gear prior to the next race start.  In view of the tractability of the mare a warning was issued.

APACHE JANE – Declared a late scratching at 9.45am acting on veterinary advice.

UNDER FIRE LOMBO – Post-race swab sample.

ONE FOR DES – Over raced when positioned outside of the leader.  Commenced to weaken from the 600 metres to be beaten 55 metres and finished in last position.  Trainer/driver D Druitt explained that he was disappointed in the mare’s performance in today’s event however did note that the mare had over raced which he thought was detrimental to the mare’s chances over the concluding stages.  In view of the mare’s disappointing performance a warning was issued.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from a slow post-race recovery.

COMPLICATED – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 3 – HARNESS TRADING RING AUSTRALIA PACE – 1740 metres

CONFUSE ME – Presented 14 minutes late on course.  Trainer R Gregory had contacted Stewards on route to the track that he had encountered flood waters and was detoured.  As this was confirmed by Stewards no direct action was taken and acting with the provisions of HRNSW horse arrival time policy the gelding was permitted to take its place in the field.  Post-race swab sample.

JACKS LAST HOO RAA – Driver L Clement pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that passing the 250 metres he has shifted JACKS LAST HOO RAA wider on the track whilst not being sufficiently clear of KAMENDABLE FEELING causing that runner to be taken wider and momentarily lock wheels with MISSKONTIKI which was racing to its outside and as a result of this movement MISSKONTIKI was taken wider into the running of JESSEJAMES SHANNON causing that runner to be checked and race rough whilst locking wheels momentarily.  Driver L Clement had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of seven days to commence midnight 10 January 2022.  In assessing penalty Stewards considered driver L Clement’s plea, record in relation to the Rule and circumstances of this incident.

KAMENDABLE FEELING – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader passing the 1050 metres.  Checked and locked wheels passing the 250 metres when JACKS LAST HOO RAA was shifted wider without being sufficiently clear.  Stewards questioned S Edyvean in relation to the tactics adopted from the 1050 metres when electing to hold the position outside of the leader when challenged by MISSKONTIKI.  Mr Edyvean explained that when obtaining the position outside of the leader the mare was travelling well on its own terms and explained that when MISSKONTIKI had improved to its outside it did not approach him with any vigour and as a result he was happy to allow KAMENDABLE FEELING to continue to stride at its own pace.  Mr Edyvean added that he would have been happy to take cover with MISSKONTIKI at this point however did not feel that there was sufficient pressure applied to his drive.  Mr Edyvean explained that he was happy with the mare’s performance however noted that the mare lost all momentum when being checked passing the 250 metres. Stewards noted his comments.

DRIFFING – Declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 2.15pm acting under the provisions of the HRNSW horse arrival time policy when that mare was presented 21 minutes late on course. Trainers representative T Gilligan had notified Stewards on route to the race track that he encountered flood water and was detoured.  As this was able to be confirmed by Stewards no direct action was taken against trainer’s representative T Gilligan.

MISSKONTIKI – Improved three wide from the 1050 metres to race wide for the remainder of the event.  Checked and locked wheels passing the 250 metres when KAMENDABLE FEELING was taken wider from JACKS LAST HOO RAA.  Driver C Maggs was questioned in relation to his tactics from the 1050 metres when improving three wide.  Mr Maggs explained that approaching the 1050 metres the pace did ease and as a result he looked to take advantage of this and improve forward.  Mr Maggs was of the opinion that KAMENDABLE FEELING would be looking to obtain cover however when he approached that runner’s outside he believed the tempo had quickened and as a result did not feel it would be in his best interest to increase the speed any further and allowed his mare to continue three wide on its own terms considering the distance remaining in the event.  Stewards noted his comments.  MISSKONTIKI will now be re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

CHUBBS – Pre-race blood sample.  Became unbalanced and galloped passing the 180 metres.  In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning was issued.
