RACE 1 – SUMMER SHOUT @ NEWCASTLE PACEWAY PACE – 2030 metres

NIFTY STUDLEIGH – Driver G Panella was cautioned for her whip use over the concluding stages of the event.

BEIDERBECKE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight despite the efforts of the gelding’s driver.

SPUNKYS PLAYING UP – Pre-race blood test. 

CC JONES NZ – Improved three wide from the 1700 metres before finding the position outside the leader at the 1500 metres. 

ULTIMATE CHANCE – Caught wide in the early stages of the event before over racing and choking down passing the 1400 metres at this stage the mare broke and then continued on to be beaten 265 metres.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  In view of the mare’s overall performance ULTIMATE CHANCE will be stood down until it can complete one requalifying trial.

RAINING ON RINGO NZ – Pre-race blood test.  Broke in the score up.  In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning will be placed against RAINING ON RINGO NZ.  Obtained an inside run passing the 150 metres.  Post-race swab.

DRAGON TATTOO NZ – Out of position at the start despite the efforts of the mare’s driver.  In view of the mare’s recent record a warning will be issued against DRAGON TATTOO NZ.

 

RACE 2 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 1609 metres

MELATI BOY – Broke in the score up and caused a false start.  At the second attempt galloped out.  In view of the gelding’s recent record MELATI BOY will be placed out of the draw in mobile starts.

ALEX TEE – Pre-race blood test. 

CONNERMAN – Pre-race blood test. 

JIGGY RHYTHM – Improved three wide passing the 1200 metres before finding the position outside the leader at the 800 metres.  Post-race swab.

 

RACE 3 – XXXX DRY PACE – 1609 metres

NORTH CANAM – Pre-race blood test.  Galloped out.  In view of the mare’s recent record NORTH CANAM will be placed out of the draw in mobile starts.

ROBYN TAYLOR – Pre-race blood test. 

ROSARITA ROCK – Worked forward to find the lead approaching the 1300 metres.  Post-race swab.

CASUAL RIVER – Caught wide in the early stages of the event before being restrained to find a position in the running line passing the 1300 metres.

YOUR NOT WITH ME – Galloped out and will be continued out of the draw in mobile starts.

ROLL WITH ANNIE – Re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

SULTAN FELLA – Inconvenienced after the start when NORTH CANAM broke.

 

RACE 4 – PFD FOOD SERVICES PACE – 1609 metres

ARBIT MAJOR – Pre-race blood test.  Broke after the start.  In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning was issued against ARBIT MAJOR. Retired from the event and will now be required to complete one requalifying trial.

CHAROLAIS SHANON – Worked forward to find the lead approaching the 1400 metres.

WAYOUTWEST – Pre-race warm up.  Caught wide in the early stages before working forward to find the position outside the leader passing the 1300 metres.  Post-race swab.

SUNDAY SESH – Pre-race blood test.  Checked after the start when ARBIT MAJOR galloped.

FEAR THE EAGLE – Checked and broke after the start when ARBIT MAJOR galloped.

 

RACE 5 – TOOHEYS EXTRA DRY PACE – 1609 metres

DAN FERNANDO NZ – Held up in the early stages of the straight before finding clear running passing the 100 metres. 

QUE SERA – Pre-race blood test.  Held up for clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested. 

ITS ALLABOUT ALICE – Post-race swab.

THE BACHELOR NZ – Pre-race blood test. 

OUR MADIBA NZ – Driver B Hughes was fined $50 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into position behind the mobile by the starting point. 

 

RACE 6 – SOMERSET MEATS PACE – 2030 metres

HARMS LOWANA – Checked and broke entering the first turn as THE BIG CHEESE NZ shifted down the track when not clear of HARMS LOWANA.

THE BIG CHEESE NZ – Driver E Chapple pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that when entering the first turn she has allowed THE BIG CHEESE NZ to shift down the track when not clear of HARMS LOWANA causing that runner to be checked and break gait.  Driver E Chapple had her licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 14 days to commence at the conclusion of a 14 day suspension incurred at Tamworth January 11 which commences midnight January 16.  In assessing penalty Stewards considered Ms Chapple’s guilty plea, record in relation to the Rule and the circumstances of the incident.

PAY ME OVERS NZ – Pre-race blood test.  Inconvenienced when HARMS LOWANA broke.

GLENN FORD NZ – Pre-race blood test.  Inconvenienced when HARMS LOWANA broke.

SKY DIAMOND NZ – Inconvenienced when HARMS LOWANA broke.  Post-race swab.

 

RACE 7 – HAHN SUPER DRY 3.5 PACE – 1609 metres

WARATAH WATTLE – Pre-race blood test.

ROLL A DOUBLE – Became unbalanced and broke free of interference entering the home straight on the final occasion.  In view of the mare’s record ROLL A DOUBLE will be placed on its last chance to race truly.

THE GOVERNESS NZ – Out of position at the start despite the efforts of the driver.  In view of the filly’s recent record THE GOVERNESS NZ will be continued out of the draw in mobile starts.  Worked forward to find the position outside the leader approaching the 1400 metres.  Post-race swab.

RACE 8 – THE TAB APP PACE – 1609 metres

ELLES CHOICE – Improved three wide passing the 1200 metres before finding the front at the 900 metres.

LADY FLORA – Pre-race blood test. 

MAYWYN TOUGH – Pre-race blood test. 

OUR BUSHWACKER – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the horse having competed in excesses of 200 race starts.  Both examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Post-race swab.

LASSETER SHANNON – Caught wide in the early stages of the event before being restrained to last passing the 1100 metres.  Re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 8 – WWW.NEWCASTLEHARNESS.COM.AU PACE – 1609 Metres

RONZEL GRINNER - Driver S Harmey was issued a caution in relation to momentarily dropping his right foot below the footrest of the sulky shortly after entering the home straight for the run to the finish. In not taking more severe action Stewards acknowledged that the seat had slipped causing Mr Harmey to over-reach to a degree.
