LITTLEHAT was scratched at 5.01pm under AR 41(1) for failing to arrive on course by the prescribed time.

When a start was attempted OLIVIA SHANNON and CHANERO both broke stride, galloped and a false start was declared.  Subsequently in another attempt to start the race OLIVIA SHANNON again broke stride, galloped and was scratched at 5.46pm.  Connections were advised that OLIVIA SHANNON would now be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.  Further, trainer/driver Ms M Parsons was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of CHANERO.

BRADNESS ABUELLA – Pre-race blood sample was taken.

CRAZY IN LOVE – Broke stride free of any external factors shortly after the start and galloped.  Connections were advised that the mare would now be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

TREACHEROUS KISS – Post-race swab sample was obtained.

RACE 2 – HANKOOK TYRES PACE – 1660 metres

WEONA MISS FORTUNE – Pre-race blood sample was taken.  When questioned in relation to the performance, trainer/driver Mr M Rue explained that he intended to find cover in the early stages, as at its most recent start when placed under pressure at the start, the filly broke stride.  He said that he was able to achieve this rounding the turn after the start however, WEONA MISS FORTUNE over raced in the running line and was difficult to restrain.  He said that when placed under pressure passing the 400 metres the filly was unresponsive and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed that WEONA MISS FORTUNE displayed a poor recovery with an elevated heart rate.  Mr Rue further advised that he would consult the owners prior to making a decision on a future racing preparation.

BAXTER RED – Post-race swab sample was obtained.

YAYAS HOT HEART – Trainer Mr S Rye was fined $100 under AR 237(2)(a) for failing to properly affix gear to that runner, which resulted in the gelding being returned to the stall area to be corrected which caused a considerable delay to the start.

CASHBOX – Hampered and had to be steadied passing the 400 metres when crowded by NIGHT LIGHTS NZ which shifted in when not quite clear.  Subsequently J Buckman the driver of NIGHT LIGHTS NZ was reprimanded under AR 163(1)(a)(iii) for allowing NIGHT LIGHTS NZ to shift in at that stage.

UROC BABY NZ – Had to be steadied for some distance rounding the turn after the start when crowded by CHOC A BLOCK, which shifted in when quite clear.  Subsequently J Morris the driver of CHOC A BLOCK was reprimanded under AR 163(1)(a)(iii) for allowing CHOC A BLOCK to shift in at that stage.

BLING THE LUCK – Slow to begin.  When questioned in relation to the performance, driver M N Turnbull explained that after being slow away he was trapped wide rounding the turn and into the back straight on the first occasion, then after attempting to go forward to obtain a position outside the lead and being unsuccessful, he elected to restrain to the rear of the field and take a position on the marker pegs.  He said that after this BLING THE LUCK travelled well and when placed under pressure ran to the finish moderately.

SHEZ A WARRIOR – Placed 2nd. Trainer/driver Mr N Hurst lodged a protest against EGOS ADREAMIN being declared the winner alleging interference in the home straight.  In dismissing the protest it was conceded that shortly after entering the home straight, EGOS ADREAMIN shifted out marginally and caused SHEZ A WARRIOR to be taken slightly wider, however after this, SHEZ A WARRIOR was unimpeded in the run to the finish and taking into account the minimal inconvenience caused to SHEZ A WARRIOR and the manner that both horses competed to the line, it was determined that had the incident not occurred EGOS ADREAMIN would still have finished ahead of SHEZ A WARRIOR.

CAUGHT OUT – Broke stride and galloped in the score up and was out of position.  Trainer/driver Mr J Davis was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s record.
