RACE 1 – CLUB MERRYLANDS PACE – 1609 metres

WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ – Hung out during the score up, after the start and was slow to begin for which a warning was issued. An inquiry was opened into the circumstances surrounding WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ and I AM MARQUEZ locking wheels passing the 200 metres. It was established that WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ had improved to the outside of I AM MARQUEZ with doubtful running and when locking wheels, was further hampered by I AM MARQUEZ which was taken wider by WHARTS YOUR SECRET NZ. In view of the contributing factors, the incident was reported.

WHATS YOUR SECRET NZ – Inquiry was opened into the circumstances surrounding WHATS YOUR SECRET NZ appearing to shift out to the inside of I AM MARQUEZ leaving the 200 metres. It was established that WHATS YOUR SECRET NZ which was held up, shifted wider towards the outside running of MY ULTIMATE ANDY NZ at which point, took I AM MARQUEZ slightly wider following that runner locking wheels with WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ. As stewards found that Driver R Morris had made reasonable attempts to straighten and the contributing factors with both WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ and I AM MARQUEZ locking wheels, the incident was reported.

MY ULTIMATE ANDY NZ – Pre race blood sample. Became unbalanced and galloped during the early stages of the score up for which a warning was issued.

DOUBLE ACT – Became unbalanced and galloped shortly after the start for which a warning was issued.

I AM MARQUEZ - Pre race blood sample. Hampered after the start when avoiding the galloping DOUBLE ACT NZ. Leaving the 200, locked wheels with WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ prior to being placed in restricted room, checked and galloped to the outside of WHATS YOUR SECRET NZ.

ARMA RENEGADE – Hampered after the start when avoiding the galloping DOUBLE ACT.

ILIKEMEBETTOR – Post race swab sample.

 

RACE 2 – LIVERPOOL CATHOLIC CLUB PACE – 2300 metres

WARFARE – Declared a late scratching at 9:22am acting on veterinary advice.

SWAGGY SHANNON – A pre and post race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.

ARDEN MESSI NZ - Pre race blood sample. Post race swab sample.

MAJOR JELLIS NZ – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1950 metres.

ROBYNS PLAYBOY NZ – Failed to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 48 metres and finish in last position. Stewards questioned driver R Morris in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding. Mr Morris explained that he had been disappointed in the gelding’s performance in tonight’s event and connections will look to have their stable veterinarian conduct an examination over the coming days and report the findings. Stewards will follow up with connections of ROBYNS PLAYBOY NZ on Monday the 16th May 2022. Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

 

RACE 3 – CURLEYS BIRTHDAY PACE – 1609 metres

GENERAL – A delay to this event was required to avoid a clash with Belmont Thoroughbreds.

FIRE FOX NZ - Pre race blood sample. Trainer J Grimson was fined $50 under rule 268A(2) for failing to lodge a gear form for the gelding. Post race swab sample.

WHEREYABINBOPPIN – Trainer J Rattray was fined $50 under rule 273(6)(b) for failing to accurately record the gear form for the gelding.

FOUROEIGHT - Pre race blood sample.

 

RACE 4 – GUILDFORDS LEAGUES CLUB LADYSHIP PACE – 1609 metres

CALA JANE NZ - Pre race blood sample. Unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight until obtaining clear running passing the 100 metres.

B K SWY NZ – Became unbalanced and galloped for a short distance after the start for which a warning was issued. Failed to run on from the 400 metres to be beaten 35 metres and finish in last position. Stewards questioned trainer / driver J Trainor in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the mare. Mr Trainor explained that after the mare made an early error he was then caught racing in the position outside which was not suited. Mr Trainor explained that considering the run afforded he was not overly disappointed in the run. Stewards noted his comments. Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

THE HONEY QUEEN NZ - Pre race blood sample. Post race swab sample.

FAIRY TINKERBELL NZ – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1200 metres.

 

RACE 5 – SCHWEPPES NSW TROTTERS DERBY (GROUP 1) – 2300 metres

AMANDINE – Became unbalanced and galloped passing the 200 metres for which a warning was issued.

ITZFERGIETIME – Out of position at the start for a warning was issued. Became unbalanced and galloped approaching the 1600 metres for which a warning was issued.

IRON LOVE - Post race swab sample.

COURAGE STRIDE – Pre race blood sample.

TOUGH LOVE – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 2000 metres.

HARRY STAMPER NZ – Post race swab sample.

PARIS KAY – Became unbalanced and galloped leaving the 2000 metres for which the filly was issued its last chance to race truly.

SPEEDY LOVER – Out of position at the start for which the gelding will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Became unbalanced and galloped passing the 100 metres for which a warning was issued.

KINGS GUARD - Pre race blood sample. Became unbalanced and galloped leaving the 800 metres for which the gelding was issued its last chance to race truly. Driver J Trainor explained that the gelding didn’t appear comfortable throughout the event and did not trot overly fluently throughout.

 

RACE 6 – MY PROPERTY CONSULTANTS GOLDEN EASTER EGG (GROUP 3) – 1609 metres

IDEAL IN DREAMS – Checked behind the weakening CAPTN ME between the 550 metres and the 400 metres.

A DUSTY DANCE – Hung in and contacted marker pegs approaching the first turn. Checked between the 550 metres and the 400 metres before being checked and racing roughly behind the weakening CAPTN ME on entry to the home straight.

CAPTN ME – An inquiry was adjourned into the driving tactics and performance of CAPTN ME when weakening from the 650 metres to be beaten 63 metres and finished in last position. The inquiry is set to resume on Tuesday the 17th May 2022. Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

COME SAY HI – Stewards questioned driver L McCarthy in relation to the tactics adopted throughout the event and the overall performance of COME SAY HI. Mr McCarthy explained that he had received no instructions from trainer B McCarthy however was planning to be positive and was looking to lead the event. Mr McCarthy stated that after beginning well, he was positioned to the outside of CAPTN ME which had begun better than expected, and given the assessed form, he considered the lead would be available. Mr McCarthy further explained that approaching the 1300 metres, and when realising CAPTN ME was going to hold the lead, he was content to sit outside the leader and was surprised with the recorded 25.8 first quarter. Mr McCarthy stated that following the fast early pace, he positioned himself on the wheel of CAPTN ME and maintained this position and further surprised with the solid pace run during the middle stages. Mr McCarthy added that passing the 700 metres he was able to continue forward to the lead as CAPTN ME weakened and travelled well however, failed to run on from the 400 metres and given the performance connections may have to reassess the way in which the filly is driven. Mr McCarhty further added that connections will look to have the stable veterinarian examine COME SAY HI in the coming days and will report back to stewards. Stewards intend to follow up with connections on Tuesday the 17th of May 2022. Stewards noted his comments. Post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be showing muscle soreness in particular the near hind gluteal muscles however required no treatment.

CHEVRONS BYPASS NZ – Checked behind the weakening CAPTN ME between the 550 metres and the 400 metres.      

MISS CHANTILLY NZ – Pre race blood sample.

SUGAR FOR MY HONEY – Trainer R Alchin was fined $100 under rule 210 for failing to declare W Rixon as the driver by the prescribed time.

NOT TO BE DENIED – Pre race blood sample. Driver M Hewitt pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 156(2)(a) in that in the home straight on the final occasion he has applied his whip to the filly in more than a wrist only flicking motion. Driver M Hewitt was fined $200 after considering his recent record. Post race swab sample.

SOHO RHAPSODY – Trainer R Alchin was fined $50 under rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have the gear form for the filly accurately recorded.  

 

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: 23/07/2022

SATURDAY 14th MAY 2022 – TABCORP PARK MENANGLE – Race 6 – THE GOLDEN EASTER EGG (GROUP 3) – 1609 metres.

CAPTN ME – Stewards finalised their inquiries in relation to J Trainor and his tactics adopted in particular his decision to maintain the lead when receiving pressure from COME SAY HI. After giving consideration to the totality of the evidence of Mr Trainor, Stewards advised Mr Trainor that they had believed that he had erred in his judgement when failing to take cover during the early stages after recording a fast 25.8 first quarter and then allowing his filly to progress down the back straight and keep COME SAY HI at his wheel, however Stewards were not of the opinion that in all of the circumstances his decisions were culpable to the degree that warranted any action be taken against his license. Mr Trainor was advised that Stewards would expect greater judgment be displayed in future.

 

RACE 7 – SCHWEPPES BULLI TROTTERS CUP (GROUP 3) – 2300 metres

AGENT MAORI - A pre and post race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.

UNIVERSAL PEGASUS – Became unbalanced and galloped shortly after the start and lost considerable ground for which a warning was issued.

AFFAIRE DE COVER – Galloped out at the start and will now be excluded from the standing start draw.

RAVE ON HALL – Galloped out at the start and took no competitive part in the event for which a warning was issued.

ALDEBARAN URSULA – Pre race blood sample.

ARAIGNEE FLAIR – Became unbalanced and galloped approaching the 2000 metres and galloped excessively until a point approaching the 1700 metres when the clerk of the course was required to intervene and catch the mare. Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Considering the tractability and in particular the excessive galloping of ARAIGNEE FLAIR the mare was stood down until it completes one re – qualifying trial.

SUNNY GEE – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 2100 metres.

GUS AN MAORI - Pre race blood sample.

KYVALLEY CHIEF NZ – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1450 metres. Post race swab sample.

 

 

RACE 8 – CARLINGFORD SPORTS CLUB PACE – 1609 metres

RED REACTOR NZ – Post race swab sample.

ALWAYS ROCKIN – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1250 metres.

SCHOUTEN ISLAND - Pre race blood sample. Unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

WHERES SEGGY - Pre race blood sample.

 

RACE 9 – WOODSTOCK & COLA PACE – 1609 metres

DON BOSTON – Pre race blood sample. A pre and post race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding being over 12 years of age and having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination. Driver B Abbott pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 156(2)(a) in that in the home straight on the final occasion he applied his whip to the gelding in more than wrist only flicking motion. Driver B Abbott was fined $200 after considering his recent offence record.

IMASPORTSSTAR NZ – Unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

SMOOTH OVERARM NZ – Trainer A Turnbull was fined $100 under rule 210 for failing to declare L McCarthy as the driver by the prescribed time.
