He said that, when placed under pressure inside the final 400 metres the filly failed to accelerate and was unable to run on over the concluding stages and was slightly disappointing in his opinion. After considering all evidence provided by driver B Hughes (CASH EM IN SHANNON) and driver R Morris (GENTLE GINAT NZ) and reviewing the available patrol footage. It was established that during the early stages of the run to the finish both runners were inclined to shift up the track, then at a point approaching the 50 metres GENTLE GIANT NZ ceased shifting up the track and maintained a true course, at which point CASH EM IN SHANNON whilst being corrected by its driver shifted inwards and consequently made contact with GENTLE GIANT NZ, resulting in the stays of both runners becoming engaged near the 25 metre mark, and CASH EM IN SHANNON being unable to progress forward for the remainder of the event with the official margin being declared a short half head. Stewards concluded, whilst CASH EM IN SHANNON had been hampered near the 25 metre mark, Stewards attributed the incident to the movement down the track from CASH EM IN SHANNON and as such Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that GENTLE GIANT NZ had caused the interference, and therefore the protest was dismissed and the All clear was given on the judge’s numbers 3-5-10-1.

He said that, he improved three wide in an endeavour to obtain a position without cover in order to improve the gelding’s racing manners. Mr Elder added that, once in the position outside of the leader the gelding failed to travel genuinely and weakened from the 1100 metres and was unresponsive towards urgings from that point. Mr Elder said that, given the strong tempo throughout the event he would have ideally preferred to maintain his position in the running line had his runner not been fierce during the early stages and was disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary exam failed to reveal any abnormalities. After consideration, ROCKARIA was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.
CASTER SEMENYA NZ – Over-raced severely throughout the early and middle stages, prior to weakening inside the final 500 metres to be beaten 65.4 metres. Driver W Rixon explained that, since its most recent start at Goulburn on 27/11/23 the stable had applied Dolly Varden blinkers however the gear addition proved to adversely affect the mare’s tractability and consequently over-raced significantly throughout. He added that, when ROCKARIA improved to its outside near the 1300 metres, the mare was at its most fierce and was unable to be restrained from that point. Mr Rixon stated that, in his opinion the mare may have choked down near the 500 metres when weakening and he said that this was understandable given the manner in which the mare over-raced throughout. Mr Rixon notified Stewards that prior to its next start the stable will make alterations to the race-day gear of CASTER SEMENYA NZ. A post-race veterinary exam failed to reveal any abnormalities. After consideration, CASTER SEMENYA NZ was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.

CAPTAIN DORIAN – Checked behind the tiring CASTER SEMENYA NZ between the 500 metres until the 250 metres. Passing the 250 metres jumped a marker peg that was dislodged by CASTER SEMENYA NZ resulting in CAPTAIN DORIAN breaking gait. In view of the circumstances no action was taken.
